• Inventory Split Incoming

MassiveCraft will be implementing an inventory split across game modes to improve fairness, balance, and player experience. Each game mode (Roleplay and Survival) will have its own dedicated inventory going forward. To help players prepare, we’ve opened a special storage system to safeguard important items during the transition. For full details, read the announcement here: Game Mode Inventory Split blog post.

Your current inventories, backpacks, and ender chest are in the shared Medieval inventory. When the new Roleplay inventory is created and assigned to the roleplay world(s) you will lose access to your currently stored items.

    Important Dates

    • April 1: Trunk storage opens.
    • May 25: Final day to submit items for storage.
    • June 1: Inventories are officially split.

Please make sure to submit any items you wish to preserve in the trunk storage or one of the roleplay worlds before the deadline. After the split, inventories will no longer carry over between game modes.

Hello massivecraft community,

Lately, more and more factions start recruiting multiple races. I don't really like this. From my point of view, races are created to be different in:
- Architecture
- Role playing
- Lore
- Behaviour
- Etc

I've also seen factions recruiting all races available (just to become more powerful I guess), but when that happens, then what would be the point of races (+ their "special abilities").

To support my point, I will give you an example:

In a random faction (no name required) the following happens:
"In the peacefull village of unknown, we can find multiple inhabitants: from elves to dwarves, and from maiar to undead". The somewhat stubborn dwarves are best friends with the intelligent
elves.

This just doesn't feel right. Not only because of the lotr movie, but also because of my imagination :)

I don't really know what to do with it...

If you recognize this, or if you disagree: feel free to comment :)

Well, PvP factions like to choose a small selection of races that have their own combat buffs. Usually to the exclusion of certain races. From a RP perspective, I see that this makes the town less believable, however it does lend itself to more interesting and varied roleplay. I don't think that one ought to rely on race variety for varied RP, but when a faction is small due to its sole acceptance of Dakkar, you can see why it could become a little less interesting. I believe that it leads to what is largely a choice between immersive & real RP and varied & exciting RP.

In the end, I deem it perfectly acceptable to decide upon either, though my personal preference is a single race faction (or similar race). I find it to lend to easier RP and a much more immersive environment where there is a more intricately designed roleplay scene.

Furthermore, factions can be created to provide refuge to a variety of races, though not together. In that way there is both an immersive environment and a stimulating variety. This is my personal favourite but I believe it is not used often enough.

I will give a short list of some race combinations I find interesting:

  • A faction holding two opposite camps of Urs and Thylans either side of a war strewn battlefield
  • A large Elvish settlement under which a small group of Dwarven bandits hide
  • An undead city where all races are kept, oppressed and tormented, in their own small village
  • A Yanar encampment where refugees of most races are facilitated for
  • A Vespid hive where other races are trapped and used as slaves
  • A Torpid hive where certain Humans have hidden, acting friendly, though they are in fact working against the hospitable Torpids

It really depends on the faction type and it's story.
Yes, there are factions who recruit every race and I totally agree with your points, but they are good for newbies to gain some experience.

Other factions are just not determined by the races and have different priorities.
TheAraneaHive for example(reckless advertising *cough*), is a trading, building and adventure faction. Traders of all kind can meet there and fight each other for every reason they have, but (!) this won't be good for trading (RP wise). That's why they whould get along. The faction is also a meeting place for adventurers and travellers. Everyone is welcome and if Urs and Thylans want to fight each other...well, it's their own problem.

you are both wrong, Yanars are supreme, though if you two want to kill each other and reduce the number of future foes feel free to do so. Also I agree with just about everything Oxoman and Saxifraga said.

Haha! Fools! You cannot penetrate the shell of a mere torpid, but you call yourselves superior?!

On a more serious note, i do say i have to agree. Having multiple races is kinda odd, and not only the architecture, but general rp is different between them all. Then again, some factions (Hopefully, i dont know any specifics lol) focus on races off a world. A faction may only recruit elves and yanar as they are from Daendroc, while another may be only thylan and ursa, from Jorhilddr. I think factions should be free to decide, but its kinda the same as the noob rp. You can never end it, you have to go to each individual to end a piece of it

I dont find it too odd if there is a decent explanation in RP for example, my Faction has a few different races permitted, this was due to the fact we had sprcified RP settings for each race; we live in an ocean so maiar members RP as people who are not actually citizens of our land, we used to have the glorious Arachnomania hive under us who RPwise lived there decades before we did, we use tigrans and non vampire humans as slaves. It all depends on a faction's set up.

Umm my faction is a temple dedicated to a religion that encourages half breeds, other races, and different beliefs... So for me its necessary. There are plenty of legit reasons as to why someone has a multi-race faction, so I get your point but at the same time I don't agree :/

If you're not a role play faction and you recruit member you will have a bad time.
My faction recruits all races and It kinda dumbfounds me how some non role play factions don't allow all races or only recruit 1 type. I've never seen a dakkar/maiar faction ever go well and they go as fast as they came. For say if out of a group of 20 noobs 6 are dwarfs, 7 are elves, 2 are maiars, 1 is a dakkar and 4 are humans. If you're faction recruited only elves then you're excluding out a lot of people based on race preference. It is suggested to recruit certain types of people not based on race but based on their interests. This may kinda make role play kinda weird but at least you have people in your faction.

That poison from that snake bite must have corrupted your brain. We Dwarves are obviously superior.

Elven supremacy all the way.

The way to solve this: Exterminate all non Dwarves.

PPppssshh...Death to all you non-humans, because only we have possess Fabulousness..only I would be able to discern that because I am the Official Council Judge of Fabulousness of Massivecraft (OCJFM)

I respect that you are bringing this point to attention.
-It is true that for most "newb" factions, the architecture is lacking a sense of unity and the basic "city" appeal that factions are meant to have. I do not believe that it is the fault of multiple races, but rather the lack of initiative and knowledge of lore and race dependent buildings. I've seen factions based on race build poor quality structures and factions with many races build amazing cities. If you were to say that a faction should be primarily one race (except for pvpers and such) because of buildings, it is not looking at the bigger picture of what makes a faction lore compliant and yet exciting.
- The thing with many many factions that are small/peaceful is that they are not that involved in lore compliant role playing and lack the basic understanding of feelings based on race (For example elves hating orcs/dwarves hating dakkars). If lore compliant and executed appropriately, as Oxoman stated, it could bring a great deal of excitement in factions/cities to have multiple races for the sake of drama. To have the variety of multiple races also prevents segregation and stagnation.
-I do not think the problem is that factions accept many different types of races, I think it's their ignorance of the lore (if not a PVP based faction) that poses as an irritation.
