The events of late afternoon in the capital of the Regalian Empire echoed quickly across the Archipelago. There were many rumors, whispers, and naysayers about the events, but the State issued a firm statement many felt could be trusted.
"Today, the faith re-education camp known as Fort Loyalty was attacked when three of its worst offenders were to be executed. Before the proceedings could go forward, a dragon descended to attack the Fort. The guards present fought bravely to protect their charges but during the ensuing blaze, both guard and prisoner alike perished. There were severe damage to the fort in the attack, but thanks to the brave efforts of the Guard Chapters present most of the charges were able to successfully escape. The Dragon then circled the city, spitting fire onto a few roofs, some of which caught fire. The Dragon appeared to then head back out from which it came, due west. Guard charters throughout the city are working valiantly to defend the people and most likely caused it to shy away from any further attacks. The Dragon that attacked the Holy City this day will be hunted down. The method in which it escaped the extinction of its brethren is not known but will be found out, along with any other remaining members of its species. In addition, the Faith Pogrom is finished and non-Unionists are allowed to walk the streets unimpeded."
Common facts the State excluded from its message to the Empire was that all clinics near the walls and even into the heart of the city were flooded with people suffering minor to severe burns, shock, and difficulty breathing. Another fact was that Anglian citizens had been frantically spreading the word that the dragon cited was a Feathered Dragon, one of their great and ancient protectors. This news prompted a rumble across the city and the Archipelago as such creatures, while almost worshiped by the Anglians, were viewed with distaste and fear. Additionally, the Hinterlandic Ravens that plagued the air above the city remained, despite the fact that the dragon had caused devastation and panic in the Holy City. Thus, an eerie calm settled over the city, tense with fear as smoke slowly rose up into the clouds and the birds watched on.
