Well Ghouls and Goblins, it is almost that time of year again.
A special time where strangers can come up to your house covered in blood, holding up the hollowed, dismembered head of some poor sod, and instead of calling the police, we give them candy
That's right, it's Halloween. So in celebration of this holiday that became so askew from it's original purpose, I am putting up another guide for the community of Massive to enjoy

Let's get Evil
So first off, why should you RP as an Evil Character?
Short version? Because it is fun. Long version? Because it is damn fun. In our world of rulers, deities, wars and the occasional baked good, we are bound by Regalian Laws and Stipulations. So one of the biggest pluses to being evil and that you essentially do whatever you want. Keep in mind however that when you are evil, there will not be many people around you. It is hard to find your Evil BFF, but make an attempt to find someone to be your partner in crime. You never know how many evildoers are out there, just waiting to be discovered. Every evildoer dreams of being as infamous as Sophie Baver ;)
But people who RP as evil character do a good job of it Jakk
. . . Debatable. People who actually do a good job? Good for them but role-playing as an evil character, and actually doing a good job at it, is a very difficult. Very commonly people set up evil character who are no more than disposable henchmen with no real purpose or goal. Anyone can be a henchman. Anyone can be a thug. Only a true master can emanate evil through RP.
Evil in RP. What it is not. What it can be.
Let us draw some lines first. Evil is not being mean, nasty, rude or a meanie-face. Being evil does not require you to steal, maim, %&@#, pillage, or kill everything you see, and it wouldn't always be in that order. Anyone who does these things quickly would become ostracized by the Massive community. Unfortunately, the majority of player being "evil", are actually just being annoying and quite possible harassing the enjoyment of your experience.

An evil character can, however, be polite, very brave, even downright honorable and generous. At the same time they can also be completely unmerciful, brutal, overbearing and even have a god complex, viewing the world around them, and those that inhabit it, as lesser beings. Evil characters don't have to be treacherous backstabbing fools, but they may wish to place their own desires or agenda above that of the group that may lead to a confrontation at a later stage.

"A heroic warrior may wish for nothing more than to amass the power and funds necessary to return to his home village, raze it, kill the inhabitants and sow the ground with salt so nothing may grow there again. He could have saved his companions countless times, put his cloak in puddles for ladies to cross and stood alone against the horde of undead. But this evil sod really, really, reallllly despises the town he grew up in and wants nothing more in life but to one day go home and put and end to all the people who made his formative years a misery, like a well armored petulant child. He's probably not justified in feeling the way he feels, even in in his mind he is perfectly justified, but that is his own psychological problem." Sendraks

So if you are not being an insane jerkbag (without a reason for being one), congrats, you are on the path to being "evil"
Alright, you've got your mind set on being evil. Now, how evil are you?
Surprisingly, it is not enough to go around and kick people randomly. Once again, that is being a jerkbag, not being evil. To be evil, you need a reason. If you are tainted, what turned you from the light. Are you a Madman? Why did you lose your sanity. Define your defilement.

Another note to keep in mind is that evil people, well, truly evil people do not see themselves as such. Commonly said, "I'm not evil, I am misunderstood". This is beautiful! When you are evil it is you against the world! You are the great hero guiding them down the untreaded path. They are the bad guys, you are just finding your way.
Personally, I believe that MonMarty's Kade character is a perfect balance of Evil and questionable Good. While he doesn't wish to destroy Aloria (that we know of), his actions have led to a long string of comments and questions in the community. Which. Is. Awesome!
Consequences
Yup, they exist. And realistically, are the more entertaining part of evil roleplay. If you were to torture, kill, kidnap or blackmail any number of people, it would eventually be noticed sooner or later. People will start asking around and interrupting whatever you're doing. You will be followed, and many "good" players may attempt to confront you. The fun part? Confront them back! You're going to want to keep your evil acts hidden in order to ensure that no one discovers you. But if you are discovered, deal with it! A player walking through the main street of Regalia wearing an AC skin, commanding everyone to hail Sithis while attempting to FusRohDah every guard that confronted them really is asking for their own ridicule. And most likely needs to read the last guide that I wrote... but that was a different issue. Sorry :D
It's all just a game!
That's it. Just remember this is a game, and the real goal here is enjoyment. If you are not having fun in whatever you are doing, stop immediately and rethink your actions. If you feel like some moment needs a little "something" but you can't figure out what it is, randomly burst out in evil laughter. Sometimes a well placed witch's laugh is all a moment needs..

I've already been doing most of this with one of my chars on another server thankyou. HIGH ELVES FTW!

I have been inspired to bring back Yung-Li and make her into a Fish Mooney-type once the Sewers are released officially...this time, I'm going to juggle my characters better.

Best of luck @The_Shadow_King3 , I always enjoy your characters, and the personal agendas that often accompany them :D

Sorry @Party_Penguin27 , no song parody yet I am afraid. I do Guides like this every now and then. Basically whenever I get in a "mood", but who knows, maybe the title will inspire a song parody around Xmas time ;D

@Jared4242 I agree. I have a character waiting in the wings for me to have some lore officiated, and it also seems as though @Tra_kad intends to add to the evil endeavors as well -cackles maniacally-

and thank you @Teddie000 feedback, whether positive or negative, is always appreciated :) glad to see you enjoy my "mood" inspired writings

I've honestly had two very evil characters with ambitions for a while, but I've been afraid to use them because:
A. my crippling fear of lore incompliancy and the hassle that goes along with it.
B. I've gone soft and I literally can't roleplay without worrying if my partner took my characters comment personally or not. It's happened before, and it causes me unbelievable stress.

Evil characters are my forte, but lately I've gotten a little bit too altruistic for my own good.

Oooo, I do believe it is time to let the Crimson Horror loose upon Regalia once more

This is actually really good! You've made a good point since we need more evil people, give the Regalian guards a run for their money. If someone is going to be evil, I'd say they'll at least need to be either cunning or stealthy with their movements, cover up the evidences of their crimes or maybe even use the evidence to blame someone else. Evil, as said above, isn't just running round like a madman with his arse on fire, you need to be organised and aware of what you are aiming for.
Also @e2782, Damon has my vote for being an evil character a little, he fricking manipulated then killed Farryn in a harsh way. Not to mention he covered up his evidence quickly and released false lies!

i gave up teh idea of an evil character long ago. mainly because i can't do a single thing without the guards almost instantly knowing it (but i can cope with that) or getting killed by someone else, some people just take the death rules to seriously and try to kill you whenever they have the chance because you are "the agressor". it's getting anoying.

Look out for me and my good friend @Colonel_Connor making some rather evil twins.
=3

On a side note, all my current characters are evil, and have barely been caught. The times Levi's been caught, she managed to wriggle her way out of trouble by being all "Waah I'm scared ;-;"

Well, I only have one 'Evil' character, though the only reason I count him as 'evil' is because he is infected with vampirism, Otherwise he is a complete goof..

William could /maybe/ be considered evil by like, a few people..
Like @Jack_The_Unseen

I havn't really made any evil characters to be honest, only a few jerkbags like Mahoney and Magnus....yet I feel they aren't being enough jerkbag.

I've made one evil character, but he was crazy hard to play due to his vampirism. I might remake him as a Chyga so I don't get people spotting his one red eye from across the tavern ;-;

ik another solution, make the eyes such a shade of red that, when it's not 100% lit you have to stand realy realy close to notice it's red and that it would seem brown otherwise. it works quiet well since you can also use it brown if you want XD

That's what I made them. But people had like, nightvision/brightness to the full. So they could see everythiiing. ;-;

@JakkDhread
Couple details I do wish to add to the consequences section;

  • There are ways to pass by without any or at least with less punishment, but not easily of course.
Having a character honest about who they hurt and bragging about it is a reason punishment becomes more and more severe. You also need to be sure that your enemy is worse in reputation than you are.
  • "Keep my friends close and my enemy closer,"
as they say, so it helps to keep your enemy stuck under your finger. If you can't keep the enemy under your finger, then let the fools take your side, example of hurting one character in private, and then meeting them in public. If you do it right, and
  • Make sure you have 'control' over the right crowd,
you can get by a bit more easily. Even as a Naylar who beat another character nearly to death, I almost got away with it because the victim tried harming me within public on multiple attempts to gain a revenge.
  • Heroes listen to the little man, so it helps to sometimes be that 'little man' who is larger in the head than anything, but don't get cocky! People can see through lies if you missed even one person of the crowd!
I have escaped about two death situations because I chose my crowd correctly.
  • Race and rank matters! Just because it fuels the ability to be evil easier doesn't mean it will truly be the same once you hit that stage!

I betrayed the Hisokan collective by stealing hundreds of regals worth in books, and now I'm on their blacklist. I'm known by the staff to be the guy who argues or complains non-stop about their decisions. I've been called disrespectful or outright rude in public settings. I'm pretty sure that I have one or two people who hate my guts. I have no true allies who would want to work on my projects, and no friends who could trust me to that extent. I can't even start an argument anymore without insulting someone or something.

How bad of a reputation is my character supposed to have? Am I supposed to be Ms. Baver? I have a character that has that potential, but there is absolutely no possible way I can get them approved.

Maybe I'll work on an evil side character...
This post was okay (it would be good if I didn't see all those left out words and all the randomly places commas/periods).

Overall it looks like you know what you're talking about. Thanks for your advice, and hopefully people actually take the time to read this.
