- Kaya has blonde hair pulled back into a mass of thick braids, which hang down behind her head; many, traditional, blue Velheim tattoos down her arms and on her face, usually a simple shirt with a strap across her shoulder to help carry various items, simple linen pants, leather and linen top, and leather boots; or the occasional appearance in more regal, wealthy attire of various designs. She stands at 5"5' or around 165 cm, with a mildly athletic build.
- Kaya Akersdottir Sorenvik was born to a freezing winter in Lillenstrand, on the island of Midtenna in Nordskag, to a minor warlord, Aker Sorenson Sudlillen, and his wife, Colette Adelinesdottir Sudlillen.
- Kaya spent her early years training with her sisters, standing among Lillenstrand's garrison as a skirmisher, and eventually begging her father to send her to receive an education successfully.
- She spent a while studying, and did so with decent results, becoming a well established intellectual of her family and, eventually, the head of it through various, unpleasant means.
- Her arrival in Regalia was a result of familial obligations and her own personal desire to establish herself as a scholar.
Kaya's birth was untimely. She was brought into the world in Lillenstrand, Nordskag. She was born early during a winter in 284, and remained small and sickly for quite some time. Her family certainly thought she would die. But, Sorenviks are awful stubborn, and Kaya just seemed to refuse to die. She grew slowly, though still small. Her appetite never grew much, and nor did she. When it came time to learn fighting, Kaya did her best. She trained alongside her sisters and kept up as best she could, but for a girl as small as she was she did not progress as far as her sisters. She never amounted to much, though she showed great promise in throwing. Around the age of 18, she grew tired of fighting, and getting beaten, so she begged her father for an education instead. It took two years of begging. Her sisters never forgave her.
Kaya began with tutors. Her studies were originally just the basics; mathematics, reading and writing. She seemed to grasp math well, so her tutors continued with mathematics. She learned all she could from them, which ranged from geometry to algebra. Soon she began reading math books in her free time, and developed a love for physics. Motion and forces seemed the most basic natural science, yet the ideas soon became complex. She started reading philosophy and theories, developing her own view of the world. She decided to take on the field of acoustical/experimental physics, which her tutors could no longer assist in. Kaya went back to her father, and begged once again. It only took a month that time.
Kaya then went on to a private academy focusing upon physics. She studied there for several years, starting with basic mechanics and then fluids and buoyancy and everything she could understand. She cut her studies a bit short when she heard Eira was heading to Regalia. She rushed the last of her studies, then headed to the city as well. She thought Regalia might have a better academy for her to study at, but alas she was unable to find one accepting of women. She researched on her own afterwards, assisting her family when she could. She hoped to eventually become a scholar in Regalia.
Then came the Hammers of Holmganga, and with it the charter wars. Kaya and her family led the way to fighting in the streets, showing Regalia what Sorenvik blood meant. The Kade family, specifically the twins Astrid and Philip Kade, became a subject of bloodshed. Wounds were suffered on both sides, arising to its height during the Lo occupation and the deathing invasion. This inevitably led to the death of Eira, and the banishment of Halfrida, Venkey, and Dagmar. Alone, Kaya remained, continuing her work and management of lands for the family while Dagmar leads her own from Nordskag.
Since Kaya's solitary run in Regalia, it has been a long and arduous climb. Her cousins, Gryft and Brynjar, eventually joined along to keep her company, and keep the house notable. More recently, Kaya has established a firm footing among the Ducal ranks of the Empire, and begun to militarize the northern regions further. She hopes to rebuild, modernize, and further develop the social and economical status within her lands, and stubbornly ignore southern influences.
When aggression began on the border of Calemberg, Kaya proudly joined the Northern Pact, a group that, while winning numerous victories, gained little and essentially bankrupted all parties involved, friend and foe alike. While the conflicts did not produce immediate gains, the lasting effect was the hostility northerners felt from the rest of the Empire, and reached a peak at the northern rebellion. Kaya, due to political difference with the Vidugglas she was a part of at the time, refused to join their ranks, but aided the rebellion by strategically making peace with states that aided the Calemberg side. With a mix of underhanded dealings and covert plans sent north, her help pivoted the rebellion into the northerner's favor, and the military might secured victory.
Now, Kaya has regained her independence, and married thrice, to Viggo and Sivrid, and also to Novellia, swiftly expanding the Sorenvik name and influence.
