I Am A Big Elf Racist

My character, Beyar, is a jerk. He's more than a jerk. He's King Jerk of Jerkstone. He hates everyone so much that the only thing keeping him from hating people more than anything is how much he hates himself. He's so full of dire loathing it's coming out his big pointy ears.

What's the point of my telling you this, you ask? Well I've noticed a tendency for my in-game arguments to devolve into flame wars and hurt feelings, and I usually don't notice until too late. People don't seem to know when I am IC (in character) or OOC (out of character).

I am literally always in character. Unless I speak with parentheses, I am in character at all times, except in private messages with certain people who already know who they are. I've noticed this trend a lot, where a character that says hurtful things will lead to a big OOC dispute. Remember everyone, it's just a game. Don't let it get to you. Some characters aren't very nice, but that doesn't mean the player has anything against you whatsoever.

Personally, I love the Massive community, even if Beyar hates all of you. Given the opportunity I would hug you all collectively and tell you it's okay, but as my arms are not that long, this explanation will have to suffice.

This is true. As I've shown before, LadyHeretic and I have a very brutal rivalry in roleplay. So much so that I even put it to music, but we don't hate each other out of character even in the slightest.

I have similar feelings, my alternate character Catho hates everyone except humans, because he hates the things that he doesn't understand. I was bashing one of my OOC friends at a tavern recently in-character, and I think some of the nearby people didn't understand and got annoyed at me.

Well, he did have a bit of a point. No other things indicated you were roleplaying, and when Mecharic took offence you did nothing to defuse the situation.

But, yeah I always expect RP from you.

Not like I said anything that offensive anyways. People just like to play the victim against me, which I am used to. (If he really wanted respect from me, he wouldn't of continued the sarcasm. As if it's hard to believe that I've gotten recognition. It's a tough job playing a villain role, but somebody has to do it.. And that is basically the point of the thread, as Spectec told me. Everyone treats me like some kind of troll because I refuse to follow the mainstream of play, but Spectec recognized that I put forth a great amount of effort in my RP and in PvP, unlike those who so rudely judge me, though they've never tried to interact with me. The best part about Spectec's attitude was that we played major opposite roles in the Solaris vs Magnanimus wars, so you'd figure he'd have burning hate towards me too, but he is actually quite intellectual and polite.)

It's not people's fault really, as they gain strong emotional bonds with their characters, due to either;

1. The character is an adaptation of them (usually with more sporting abilities)
2. The character is their vessel for making friends and having a social life
3. The character is based off someone/something they already have a strong bond with/have memories with

People defend their characters to the bitter end when this happens. People need to realise that it's like a poker game; leave your disputes at the table and carry on with your lives normally. Be social, have fun, make friends and enemies, get into disputes; it's all part of the game, but your character's opinions should not affect yours. I am not in the same arguments as Captain Silver Albatross when I'm talking to my friends, as in real life or OOC you are not in the same disputes as your character. It's called a ROLE-PLAYING game for a reason, and the sooner everyone understands the easier it will be for some people to move past disputes. I mean, hey, it's a lot harder to type insults than simply "GG".

If we're in RP, Mecharic is currently not part of the RP universe (the character named Mecharic left to soul-search a little). I have two other characters, only one of which is built for the current RP rules.

Say what you will, I care not. Immortals like myself (hint: this is why he isn't here anymore lol) don't generally care about the whims and rages of others. - Mecharic (Drunk Monk or Elder Sage depending on if he's playing the Monk role or being his actual self)

As for the thread and event in question, I was not "playing the victim" I thought you were honest about what you said. And considering you said it in response to a post that wasn't RP in a thread that wasn't RP, my assumption is entirely reasonable. So stfu about it already.
