Massivecraft went through a series of changes over time. One thing that has been ever changing is the lore. One of my favorite aspects of the lore is the wide variety of races. Many races have been added, removed, reworked, or had never been made playable in the first place. I remember when the Maiar were first added, and I remember playing as one day one of their release, back when we still had the old races plugin. I also remember them being near impossible to play as, as your couldn't go on land for very long without (I think it was) starving.
Now, I don't remember all of the races that ever existed, and many of them were reworked into existing races. However some of the ones I remember are:
Avarr: They were massive bird-humanoids. They were inspired by the Aztecs of Earth. These guys were powerful. So much so that they were outlawed in Regalia. These guys were removed shortly after they were released as many people just created throw away characters just to kill people for fun.
Pravden: A rat race. Literally. These guys, who I couldn't find a picture for, but they lived deep underground, directly beneath Regalia. They had rebuilt Regalia out of the rubble and junk that fell into their underground. They were roughly the size of a small child, and they had their own nobility, senate, royal family, Golden Willow Tavern, everything seen in Regalia, just made of loose bricks, wood, and other junk. They were never made playable, which I find a real shame as the idea for an alternate Regalia would have been so cool. They seem to have been completely scrapped, or may have been worked into the old Kleinfolk
Thylan: Tasmanian. Tiger. People. Need I say more on how cool these guys were? They were the closest thing to a dog race we ever had as far as I remember. They lived in the snowy wastes of Jorhillder and northern Ellador. These guys still exist, but are no longer playable. I remember having a guild of these guys that patrolled the wilderness around Regalia for monsters, undead, and bandits.

Ur: Yes. Their name was just two letters long. And these guys were cool. These guys were bears. Literal bear people. They lived alongside the Thylans and acted as their mortal enemies. They had to wear clothing to keep themselves from looking too much like real bears, so they wouldn't be killed on sight. They got a rework later on to look less bear-like. They seem to have been reworked into the Urls, who, of course, are more minotaur-like.
Sadier: These guys seem to have been completely overhauled into the Qadir. They were classified as undead. They were sand spirits. They only had one page in the race lore book, so very little is known about them.
Agni: The precursor to the Dakkar. They were lava elementals. They acted as the opposite to the Maiar. However, they were reworked into the Dakkar, as Agni is the name of a god in Hinduism. Massivecraft wanted to leave religion out of the server, so they were renamed and made more lizard-like.
Vespin/ Mekket/ Cirrci/ Arachne: This race BUGS me. Get it? BUGS? It's a pun. 'Cause they were bug people. They were later renamed to the Mekket, and were given a sub-group known as the Cirrci, who acted as magical queen ant/bee type people. They even had a special jelly-based magic, if I remember correctly. Then there were the Arachne, who were spider people. These guys eventually got reworked several times until we came to the Maraya, no longer resembling their buggy "alpha phase" (puns).
Golem: A race of stone people. I'm guessing they would have been used to explain the iron golems. These guys had a fairly short entry in the old race lore book. Again, not much is known about these guys.
Kleinfolk (And Subraces): These guys still exist, just no as varied as they once were. They are now the Lampar and Rashaq. However, these guys once had two very different subspecies: One very hobbit like, and one much more bestial. The hobbit like Klein are self-explanatory, however, Kleinfolk could take on the form of half-human, half-woodland critter. Squirrels, mice, goats, deer, boars, etc. These seem to have been what the Pravden were morphed into. These guys were popular when they were first released. So much so that they were labeled as vermin shortly after their release (after a dozen of them stood on the chandelier in the Golden Willow Tavern at once and it came crashing down). I loved the variety in these guys.
So, those are the old races I remember. I'm probably missing some. I'm not including the ones that still exist in a mostly unchanged form, such as Tigrans (cat people) and Naga (snake and lizard people). I'm just including the ones that were once playable, were going to be playable, or were massively overhauled in some way at some point. Photo credit mostly goes to Monmarty. Anyways, thank you for reading, and have a Massive Day!
