• Inventory Split Incoming

MassiveCraft will be implementing an inventory split across game modes to improve fairness, balance, and player experience. Each game mode (Roleplay and Survival) will have its own dedicated inventory going forward. To help players prepare, we’ve opened a special storage system to safeguard important items during the transition. For full details, read the announcement here: Game Mode Inventory Split blog post.

Your current inventories, backpacks, and ender chest are in the shared Medieval inventory. When the new Roleplay inventory is created and assigned to the roleplay world(s) you will lose access to your currently stored items.

    Important Dates

    • April 1: Trunk storage opens.
    • May 25: Final day to submit items for storage.
    • June 1: Inventories are officially split.

Please make sure to submit any items you wish to preserve in the trunk storage or one of the roleplay worlds before the deadline. After the split, inventories will no longer carry over between game modes.

I've got a request~

Face: (I'm just gonna do a reference pic because I'm tired and it's late)
Except with purple hair and eyes, being that he's a Tarchlann. He's clean shaven. Conri has four lines on his left cheek, forming two columns with open bottoms and tops. His ears have a slight point, being that he's a Tarchlann, but not nearly as pointy as a Talar's.
Expression: Probably a happy smile or grin.
Pose: Do whatever you want with it.
Clothes:

Hey guys! Sorry for the lack of art recently, I've been super busy.
I don't have any of the requests done yet, so here's something to look at until that is done!

This is the first part to my Bestiary for Massivecraft. Tell me what you think!

Core Idea: A new predator to the oceans, and perhaps a new deadly monster to encounter when roleplaying.

Core Category: Magus/subspecies

Core Affect: Fishermen, Sailors, Maiar, and sewer dwellers.

Core Conflict: I am pretty sure there is no conflict, as this is an extreme example of Evolutionary Physiology

Core Niche: Oceanic Fauna

Official Name: Maiaris tenebris

Common Nicknames: Deep Dweller, Abyssal, Snapper

Classification: Fish/Sentient

Habitat: Deep oceans around the islands of Hadar, often near to Maiar populations

Domesticated: No

Current Status: Common, but rarely seen

First Recorded Encounter

~Excerpts from the nautical journal of Captain Anaheim Dougal, 98AC

"I write this now as a testament to my life, hoping that someone finds this to know what has happened, seeing as I might not survive these next few days at sea. My ship, The Virtue, has been overrun, and my crew slaughtered before my eyes. I and three of my men escaped into a life boat just before the attack, and are now floating across the open ocean in some unknown direction. I pray that the Spirit will guide us safely to land, as we have neither food nor water…"

"It is currently our fourth day on the open ocean, and our spirits are growing weak. Last night Stendahl disappeared from the life boat, leaving nothing but a stain of blood and one boot. These creatures, they are horrifying. Their teeth are as sharp as needles, and their eyes as empty as the void itself. They move like fish, with speed and vicious energy, but think and act like men. I assume that they are some sort of Maiar or sea serpent, but I cannot be sure. They kill like savages, and I see no intelligence in their bottomless eyes…"

"This is to be my last entry, the 20th of June, and I pray that someone finds this journal to remember us. I write this as the last surviving member of my crew. One of the beasts sits on the end of the life boat, staring at me in the darkness. Its skin ripples with points of light… It's actually quite beautiful. To whoever finds this journal, my name is Captain Anaheim Dougal, tell my wife and two daughters that I love th—"

Current Status: Sightings and encounters with these creatures have become more and more common. Isolated incidents occur nearly monthly, and the reports often come back with similar stories. A few of these monsters have even been seen within the sewer systems of various large cities across the globe.

Characteristics

Maiaris tenebris is a unique example of how isolation can turn even some of the most intelligent animals into feral beasts that have lost their sentience. The 'Deep Dwellers', as most tend to call them, are a sub race of Maiar that experienced a radical change after the cataclysm. At one point, they belonged to grand tribes of the Maiar, and looked one and the same as their modern counterparts. During and after the cataclysm, many populations were pushed deeper and deeper into the ocean's depths. They lost all contact with the outside world, and with their own people. Eventually, nature took over and they began to adapt. Their vision, skin, posture, and physiology as a whole were altered for a life in the dark. However at the same time, they started to become feral, and eventually degraded to the point of losing all connection with what they used to be. Now, they are no more than a predator that seeks for survival.

Notable Traits

Despite its shortcomings, Maiaris tenebris is a marvel of physical adaptation. Their eyes have grown to great sizes in order to see prey within the depths more easily. The eyes are large, round, and devoid of any pupil or iris. Another adaptation to hunting prey lies in their mouths. Their teeth have evolved from a larger, flatter shape to sharper needle-like things that line their jaws tightly. Having lost the ability to communicate using language, Maiaris tenebris has gained the ability to communicate in another way. Their arms, neck, under-eyes, legs, and tail are covered in bioluminescent nodes that flash different colors to communicate in the depths in which they live. Like their cousins, the common Maiar,Maiaris tenebris is also capable of going on land. It is a rare occurrence, of course, as these creatures tend to stay in the open ocean, but it has been observed. They are unable to walk bipedal, so instead they crawl around on all fours when on land.

Diversity

Maiaris tenebris originated near the scattered isles of Hadar shortly after the great cataclysm, when their magic had been cut off and they were forced into the deeps by invaders. There were three hundred individual tribes involved in this separation, their names lost to time. Now they exist within the trenches and caverns that scatter the ocean floor, hunting, eating, breeding, and slowly slipping away from what they once were.

Life within the deep has greatly changed the way that the genders look and behave. Females tend to be much larger than their counterparts, nearly twice as large on average. Often times the females will eat the males as a sustainable source of food. Even so, Maiaris tenebris have developed a key survival strategy. They exist in large groups, anywhere from 20-30 members at a time. This usually consists of three to five females and the rest populated by males. So that they are not consumed, the males will hunt for the females, killing anything that they can find to satisfy the immense hunger. Often they spend their entire lives doing this, before breeding and dying off. Due to their extreme lifestyle, they only live half as long as a true Maiar.

Trivia

· Although extremely rare, lone Maiaris tenebris have been known to leave their groups and seek out a hunting ground for their own. This can include sea ports, maiar tribes, and even city sewers.

· If a player finds a skin or makes one that would match this description, Maiaris tenebris would make a great playable monster for some quick RP action with your friends.

· Although they originally came from the common Maiar, Maiaris tenebris is an entirely different species. Technically, they are wild animals.

· The bioluminescent patterns of communication vary between each group.

· If a group is without a female, males can alter their physiology to replace said female.

Please help me to make this the best I can! Some peer editing would be lovely!
