[X] STRAY | [X] COULD YOU BITE THE HAND?
"I'm here standing on the edge
And staring up at where a new moon should be."
Name: Vexes Zanzaphir
Race: Half-Skyborn (Isldar recessive)
Culture: Amal (currently Yellow Roam)
Age: 28 years old
Gender: Non-binary, feminine-presenting
Pronouns: They/them, but will answer to any pronouns in the field of work
CORE CONCEPT
Vexes Zanzaphir embodies a complex blend of resilience and wariness, shaped by a childhood spent in Regalia's impoverished districts under the influence of both their Skyborn father and Isldar relatives. Having witnessed the relentless struggles of those around them, they developed a fierce loyalty to the downtrodden but also a deep-seated resentment toward the upper castes, stemming from their own family's privileged ties to wyvern breeding in Ellador. The traumatic betrayal of losing their comrades during the Dread War, where they alone survived a fateful mission, solidified their jaded perspective and determination to carve their own path. Driven by a stubborn sense of duty and a desire for redemption, Vexes navigates the mercenary life as both a means of survival and a way to honor the fallen, all while grappling with the shadows of their heritage that they refuse to embrace.
APPEARANCE INFORMATION
Vexes is tall (6'4) with a solid-muscle physique. They have dark hair and amber, cat-like eyes. They dress in dark colors and own nothing expensive but their gear and hook-lasso. Skyborn mandala patterns extend from the fingertips to their forearms, telling the tale of their life.

Mechanics
- Skyborn do not need to choose a Tech Branch for any engineering or technology tinkering they do. They can build/edit/repair any Branch. Even if a unique Technology Branch has specific requirements they do not meet (such as Religion, or Affliction), they cannot build or make it but can repair or edit it. They can install security systems in their Rentals, requiring OOC notification of Break-ins.
- Skyborn have a high analytical ability to perceive and understand the machinery that is witnessed or operated during Events. This may allow them to learn more about the devices that are seen or used, or discover hidden features or functions that other people cannot perceive. Make sure to contact an Event Dm for any potential uses in Private Message during the Event or beforehand to learn more.
- Skyborn have a sixth sense for manipulating technology, even without directly touching it and just laying their eyes on it. Skyborn can "hack" or hijack any technology made by anyone in viewing distance and cause it to operate or change its functions. Think for example forcing a mechanical teapot to boil over, or a music machine to play off-key. This may not apply to Event Machines.
- Scripter Ancestry Mechanic: Scripter Ancestry Skyborn are immune to any type of memory alterations due to their high attunement with their sequential memory. While it is possible to remove memories from their mind, memories cannot be implanted, edited, or replaced. This means that if a memory is removed, a Scripter Skyborn will always know that a memory is missing, and where it disappeared.
- Starting Combat in a cold weather environment (with blocks of snow or ice present), Isldar gain +2 Attack Stat (breaking Cap up to 11) for every Attack Emote. This is limited to mountainous regions and Magical Ice Area Effects, but when the snow has blanketed Regalia during winter, this applies to the whole map for a 1-and-a-half-month period between November 15th and January 1st, but the bonus is halved to 1 instead of 2.

When you are done, you just abuse it,
Whatever you say.
If you were offered some, would you wanna
Bite the hand?"

PLOT HOOKS
- Vexes was born and raised in Regalia in the comfort of a local Red Roam, living predominantly in the poor parts of town, with their Skyborn father and uncle, and less so their Isldar uncle.
- At age 18, they retired the red ribbon for a yellow one, displeased with the Draconists, Archon, and Isldar continuously showing up at their roam, most of whom are a part of Vexes' family on their mother's side.
- The Zanzaphir family of Isldar are known for breeding wyverns in Ellador. Vexes has a poor view of most Isldar ways of life and often chooses not to associate themself with these cultural norms. Your character can try to convince them to see this culture in a better light.
- They served in the Dread War as a nameless soldier providing ranged cover among the firing lines. [UNLOCKED PLOT HOOK] Vexes served under Field General Reyna Typhonus in the Fourth Company. They took a bounty on a Silver Tear Paladin and formed a three-man squad: Joined by Sera Alina Brandis, a Bloodcast, and Mazala, a Maquixtl archer, they entered the field to take down their target. Only Vexes survived the ordeal and killed the Silver Tear Paladin after their slain allies had weakened him. They were never compensated for their bounty.
- Because they often perform mercenary jobs for payment, similar characters may have run into them and even shot or fought with them before.
- Vexes has previously helped "the rich" but does not think highly of the upper castes.
- They are bisexual and can initiate, but are very true to their Isldarrin blood, so they are stoic and difficult to read.
- Vexes was absent from 312 to 315 AC, shortly after returning from Amontaar. They left behind their company of assorted mercenaries, except for one individual who insisted on tagging along. Vexes returned to the city, biding their time and waiting for the next hire.
