What's the Foreign Legion?
The Order of the Foreign Legion is a subdivison of the mercenary order, Order of the Black Sepulchre, operating under the capacity of an all-inclusive division of all races that hold loyalty to Unionism and the Regalian Empire. It's stylized after the Ithanian military in ranking, and takes heavy influence from the now retired, Order of the Hightower, regiment that once patrolled Regalia's streets.Based largely on the ineffective combat techniques of the now retired, Black Sepulchre Chemical Korps, the Foreign Legion boasts a strict doctrine of combat discipline in order to rectify the mistakes of the past. It also has foregone primarily utilizing experimental weaponry in favor of employing traditional military discipline while still attempting to sire new methods of warfare.
After appointment of Charles de Nodier in the late 306 AC to a small taskforce by Lord Jared Kade in order to further the goals of the Black Regiment the once puny and unorganized squabble of blackpowder monkeys was reformed under orders of the Lord Jared Kade to incorporate heavy military discipline in order to combat the quite usually untrained militia the order employed. Charles saw fit to rename this new organization the 'L'ordre de la Légion étrangère' or colloquially known as the 'Order of the Foreign Legion' to denote the fact that members come from all walks of life yet serve a singular goal to the Regalian Empire.
Organizational Structure
Général de Division:
The senior ranking commander of the Black Sepulchre Chemical Korps who organizes and assists in battles the order itself is involved in. Even this high-ranking and important officer can be seen on the front lines like any other soldier in the order.
Lieutenant-Commandant:
The Lieutenant-Commandant of the Order are charged with all matters concerning raids and training, ensuring that all within the Order act in strict accordance to the code whilst on duty. They reserve the right to personally punish guardsmen who break the code or act outside of Regalian Law. They are part of the Général de Division's small council and the rank is the highest officer position one can attain within the Order.
Sous-Lieutenant:
High-ranking officers within the order that are never actually based from the ranks within the order. In fact, all Sous-Lieutenants are from the Order of the Black Sepulchre's ranking officers who act as a liaisons between the regimental commanders of units operating in fields of battle with Foreign Legion troops in order to avoid unnecessary combat. Sous-Lieuenants are known to be aggressive and harsh to their own troops, and quickly turn around to apologize to outsiders like nothing happened.
Légionnaire deux ans:
Légionnaire deux ans are expected to make decisions in the city and give direct orders to those beneath them. Légionnaire deux ans are expected to take up a recruit as mentorship, have full authority to hold impromptu house searches and takes command when no higher ranking individual is present. Légionnaire deux ans also are allowed to accept someone's initiation rights and recruit for the Order.
Légionnaire d'un an:
Légionnaire d'un an are a step up from Légionnaire, nominally a first among equals with Légionnaire and may take command during emergency situations. While the rank does not innately offer advantages they are more likely to be listened to and trusted with sensitive tasks by their superiors. Nominally considered a full fledged member of the Order.
Légionnaire:
Légionnaire are the strength and muscle of the Foreign Legion. These individuals which make up almost the entire Guard are tasked with patrolling the street, searching for possible signs of vampirism or crime. If found, Légionnaire are charged with neutralizing, detaining and punishing individuals according to their own judgement.
Officier d'intendance du corps chimique:
Quartermasters of the Order keep equipment high-grade, and develop weaponry for the fighting forces of the Order. Individuals in this rank range from logistics officers to engineers. They make up the bulk of the supply chain for the Foreign Legion.
Foreword: If your character joins this organization - they will likely be killed or maimed. This is a subdivision of a guard charter, not a medical clinic for bookworms. That said...
