• Inventory Split Incoming

    MassiveCraft will be implementing an inventory split across game modes to improve fairness, balance, and player experience. Each game mode (Roleplay and Survival) will have its own dedicated inventory going forward. To help players prepare, we’ve opened a special storage system to safeguard important items during the transition. For full details, read the announcement here: Game Mode Inventory Split blog post.

    Your current inventories, backpacks, and ender chest are in the shared Medieval inventory. When the new Roleplay inventory is created and assigned to the roleplay world(s) you will lose access to your currently stored items.

    Important Dates

    • April 1: Trunk storage opens.
    • May 25: Final day to submit items for storage.
    • June 1: Inventories are officially split.

    Please make sure to submit any items you wish to preserve in the trunk storage or one of the roleplay worlds before the deadline. After the split, inventories will no longer carry over between game modes.

I've seen a lot of people saying massivecraft is copying The Elder Scrolls and I'm just not seeing it, I'm curious to see what others thoughts are on this subject.
 
Heck no, Massivecraft is amazing and far different than Skyrim. They have their own lore, stories and it's... Incredible. I can't see many similarities between the two at all.
 
Only connection I see is the Tigran picture in the races lore ;) Awesome drawing, but definitely a Khajiit :)
 
Certainly not the same as TES but has a few similarities, such as the Tigran.
 
Well in truth skyrim is copying the original fantasy idea. In all the years humans have been intelligent beings we have exhausted almost every new idea, almost everything now is influenced by something else. But for it copying TES, I belive the admin have stated they got more inspiration from Warhanmer.
 
We take inspiration from everything, in general it's hard to say one person is in charge of the lore, as the product of dozens of individuals comprise our lore alltogether.
 
hahaha thanks for the input and Tigrans aren't really copying the Khajiit there are many humanoid animals in the fantasy genre although the picture of them does look like a khajiit

Sereph = Dwemer (advanced ruined species)
Undead = Undead (lol)

Meh. They have some classic fantasy features, and I have yet to see any fantasy where the elves are industrious being who run factories and shit while dwarves live as one with nature (someone make that into lore damnit) so meh.
 
Skyrim is kinda a fantasy game. So most medieval games/RPs that have different races are kinda fantasy also. But they're not the same.
 
Two things Humanoid animals are not a new thing in the fantasy genre so it's not really copying skyrim, also skyrim isn't the only tes game morrwind's the best :C
 
I don't see a resemblance, but I wouldn't be surprised if there was a little inspiration taken from TES. Honestly, at this point pretty much everything nowadays is influenced by something else, and few things are completely and totally original.

Saying MassiveCraft rips of TES is a bit like saying all first-person shooters are ripoffs of Call Of Duty. It's not like either of those series were completely and totally original; they were inspired by other sources, too.
 
I believe Massivecraft is very unique. The whole copying thing is dumb because honestly you can say Call of Duty ripped off Mario because you can jump in it.
 
It's all just copying J.R.R. Tolkien anyway!

Good artists copy, but great artists steal.

Even Dr. Fong is highly derivative of Dr. Loa.. behold!

 
Massive is actually way better lore wise, also I even saw some crazy people bringing up Skyrim lore when I said a dwarven robot that looks like an elf is Lore incompliant.

The Dwemer were dwarves :P
 
Almost all modern fantasy games owe their existence to Dungeons and Dragons, which in turn draws heavily from The Lord of the Rings. If anything, Massive is much closer to D&D in nature than TES.

I do find it disheartening that many are so pessimistic about the lore. Though some bits may seem "generic", certain aspects of fantasy have become commodities. For example, change elves into an industrious and technologically gifted race would make them something other than "elves". And let's not forget that one way to make an interesting character is to make one who breaks established stereotypes.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAH The Dwemer are not necessarily dead they were all teleported into an alternate dimension, also in morrowind there was a immortal dwemer still around although his existence was pain

MassiveCraft worked hard to create, for the most part, it's own lore. While I still wish that Elves were the industrial race and dwarves a forest-loving race... -cries-

Yeah so TES, Massive and lots of other medieval fantasy games/worlds are pretty much based from J.R.R Tolkiens books.
 
In TES the dwemer are not so much dwarves but industrious elves, as they are a subspecies derived from Altmer, however there are some vague hints in TES to another race that are the steriotypical dwarves, however they have never made an apperience in a TES game...

Back on topic
I wouldn't even say Tolkien came up with all the ideas for Elves, Dwarves etc... as those have been derived from old folk tales and what not... And Massive definnately doesn't just copy it takes ideas from multiple sources and expands upon them creating its own original Lore...
 
Personally I think not, I feel influences from GOT (the factions) and LOTR.
But is this a bad influence? No, since it attracts a lot of people to the server. MassiveCraft brings reality, that you can't get anywhere else. It brings all those fantasy films/books to life.
And;
Well, if we start like this.... Everything in this world is copied from someothing else.
Clothing styles are copied, governments copy, technology, architecture etc.
And yes, Tolkien is unique and intrroduced this whole new theme. It's copied a lot. MassiveCraft is not a copy since it has it's unique things, because it's a turmoil in the staff from different cultures, ages, languages and nationalities. But yes, it has some influence from LOTR/Skyrim, but this is inavitable.

It's not about whether it's copied or not, it's about how good you improve the copied things, to make it even better and suitable for yourself.

I definitely can see a lot of inspiration, I take inspiration from ES when writing stuff. Tigran Drug Dealers? Come on guys, it's the old Skooma Cat!
Or Sunna Tar, which means "Blessed Wood" in the Ayleid Language. Meh.

Everyone's going to draw stuff from their favorite things, it's a given. Inspiration is good, but Massivecraft has truly defined it in the differences from common folklore and popular genres.
(Thank GOD Vampires don't sparkle...)
 
A tad off topic, but I am glad that Massive made their own magic system. Their own, you say? Well, yes. You know the old awakening and stuff? That was copied almost word for word from a book called the Alchemist.

That is unfortunately what happens when you allow other people than yourself (Like me trusting someone else to write a mechanic for me) to write up something as important as the entire magical system. As soon as we caught wind of the fact that it was a one to one copy of that book, we threw it out of the window.

I won't the deny the obvious TES, Dragon Age, LOTR, Warhammer and many many more references that Alorian lore has, but hey, many of those continuities all take assets from each other as well. There is no truly completely unique universe. What we ultimately strive for is a universe with identity, something that is recognizable and distinguishable, not necessarily unique.

That, and I never read books, so I'm fairly resistant to copying book lore continuities (and detecting plagiarism for that matter).
