This morning was relatively quiet in the Estate's courtyard, of course not counting the bird's sharp chirps and the soft sounds of hedge trimming. However, I'm glad the sounds weren't screams, shouts, begs, or protests; Sounds that inevitably would course through my eardrums in just a few hours time when I arrive in the city for my daily duties at the slum's gate or otherwise.
The slum's gate and beyond is a godless place, filled with demons in their own right, accompanied by Void dripping, criminal scum. They make our city dishonorable and distasteful to say the least - and yet they don't care to change. They enjoy their heretic and traitorous ways despite it ultimately being the death of them all.
Some of them may not enjoy the path they take, for people have to do what they have to in order to survive. However they fail to realize that there's plenty of opportunities on the right side of the city, where the Spirit watches and rightfully judges. They fail to realize that they may redeem themselves and repent for their sins, but I suppose the majority of them are far past redemption.
I can only hope that I can protect my children from the foul beasts and humanoid monsters lurking behind the gate, awaiting prey in packs. They steal and kidnap hatchlings and children, regardless of race or identity, social status or fame. They're evil beings that wish to bring chaos to other's lives to give them a taste of their own. I'm sure they'll bring chaos to the wrong family, making those they terrorized, the monster's within their story lines.
We are the peace, they're the source of disturbance.
