Obviously we should have considered that players would reverse engineer an aspect for their character. After all, how could you not pick a power when it is right in front of you. That being said, there are some serious IC and OOC considerations to be made for the players who wish to engage in them. Perhaps these aspects were not clearly explained on the Wiki page, or perhaps they were intentionally glossed over with all the sparkle and curiosity that came with reading the page. This thread seeks to set out a couple of important considerations to be made.
From an IC perspective, less than 10% of the Unionist population should pick an Aspect. We won't regulate this as mentioned before, but there are a couple of reasons for this:
From an IC perspective, less than 10% of the Unionist population should pick an Aspect. We won't regulate this as mentioned before, but there are a couple of reasons for this:
- The aspects represent fanatic cults with a very specific view on how to grow Unionism. That means one should not simply say "Oh my character likes Strength so I'm going with the Order of Strength" for the bonus. Rather the question should be, does it make sense for my character to support this fanatical order, and deserve the power in return, not picking the power and then trying to explain afterwards why the character should fit that specific Aspect & Order.
- For example, for the Aspect of Dominion, the question should be "Is my character really in line with expanding racial integration, and is my character really okay with losing part of their own Ailor identity for the sake of religion".
- For example, for the Aspect of Knowledge, the question should be "Is my character really okay essentially calling all other races and non believers stupid, and is receiving visions really not disturbing for my character, which can often be livid hallucinations in the middle of the day".
- For example, for the Aspect of Divinity, the question should be "Is my character willing to use zeal as a tool to deprive others of their freedom, or is my burning faith so important it becomes okay to hurt those who do not believe".
- Characters should agree with the Aspect & Order first, not an OOC choice for a power and then an excuse to support such a group afterwards.
- Furthermore, players seem to also gloss over the fact that these Aspects and Orders are in an effect actual IC organizations and Charters. Being a member is permanent, irreversible, and you will be stuck with such a choice for the rest of your character's existence.
- Aspect Orders will have future conflict generated from progressions.
- Aspect Orders will have an enforced competition between other Aspect Orders.
- Aspect Orders will not allow Characters who are of an Aspect Order to ignore this.
- Aspect Orders can in the future become marginalized or made illegal by the state or Synod.
- If you choose an Aspect Order for your character, please be aware that you may become subject to intense conflict-rp or progression developments that you may not want to be involved with. The Aspect Orders are partially also designed to encourage conflict RP between Unionist cults, not /just/ to give Unionists special powers.
