The Salas family is a true Tierravera family with a rich history of military progress and contributions. They recently fully claimed Entierra, which they were previously vassals to a more prominent ruling line of nobility. Before their vassalage, the Salases were construction workers first and soldiers or knights second, working hard in the hamlets they grew up in to create strong foundations. They always had high aspirations and wanted to create a fortress that would keep their family safe for generations. To achieve this, they ventured into the wilderness and built their first of several keeps.
After becoming a vassal to the Anaheras and subsequently departing from their vassalage when the Anaheras betrayed the Empire, the Salases have lived comfortable lives. Their name now holds more weight than it did fifty years ago, thanks to careful political maneuvering and intense focus on honing their crafts. The Daen-style of architecture used to build their castles and fortresses in the Entierra forests assures that they remain standing today, with suitable cannonry and defenses that any Salas family member could brag about.
While some people, whether rich or poor, associate Tierravera families with crime and subterfuge, the Salases strongly believe in their commitment to the Empire. Without this pure ambition, they would not be who they are today.
Historical Summary
Before 250 AC, the Salas family was unknown. They were honest, hardworking individuals who made a living by designing, building, and fortifying homes and buildings. However, over time, they became interested in creating something notable and sturdy for their own family. This caught the attention of a wealthy family who was willing to take them under their care and reputation so they could establish a place in the Entierra forests and build a castle, a fortress, which would become one of the most efficiently constructed keeps in the Daen lands.
As usual, conflict arose. When a neighboring lord saw the Salas family rise to prominence and saw their magnificent forest castle, El Halcón Rojo, they attempted to siege it. Under the leadership of the first patriarch, Agustín, the Salas fortress withstood the attack with minimal damage and losses. It was the first of many examples that the Salases presented to the foes of their military strategic prowess, for they were not only builders but also soldiers and military engineers. Despite the sieging lord's soldiers' efforts, they could not break through the defenses, and once the soldiers grew tired, the Salases retaliated. Since then, the family has only perfected this art. According to Agustín, "To stand against any opponent, we must think like them, and then we must expose their weaknesses."
Agustín became the first official patriarch of the barony at 72 years old. After nearly four years, his health declined, and the title passed to his son, Luis. The construction of the second castle in the Entierra wilderness was well underway during this time. Luis was more approachable than his father and open to inviting potential allies to discuss terms of collaboration. He was sociable but knew when to focus on business matters. He married locally after a few years.
Over the years, the Salas family's construction and military contributions continued steadily. Marriages and contracts for labor and resources had their obstacles, but the real trouble came much later. As vassals under House Anahera, they enjoyed recognition, courtly presence, and opportunities to insert Salas soldiers and knights into the Empire. However, they failed to notice underhanded plans of betrayal nearby, and the next acts of tyranny caused devastation in the courts.
Panic and disarray were in full swing, and the Salas family was no better off. The family that supported them had committed grave acts against the Empire. The plotting and scheming occurred without the Salases' involvement. To make it clear that they were not involved, they abandoned the vassalage and dedicated themselves to righting the wrongs. They faced suspicion with due cause, and the current patriarch, Jaime, spent the next seven years playing it safe in the field of nobility.
Jaime debated with his staff and relatives what the next course of action should be. The family kept mostly to itself, except for public opportunities to redeem the reputation of those once closely tied to the Anaheras. New castles and keeps were built across Entierra, and House Salas restored its position in court. Though a Viscount, it was the highest success the former vassal family had to their name. Jaime considered this his crowning victory in his era of leading the family. He designated the role of Viscountess to his eldest of four daughters, Romona Valentina, as his health began to decline at the end of 311 AC.

Values & Religion
The Salas family is primarily a Unionist family and has a deep history of bringing up their children on these beliefs. Namely, they have tended to be more tolerant towards the Occult provided they do not cause much trouble. A Salas relative may find a different religion to believe in; the family believes in the respect of others, especially of their blood, and so long as those differing beliefs do not endanger other relatives intentionally or unintentionally, these different views are often left alone.
Perfecting military strategies of defense and creating strong, insurmountable fortresses are things that greatly matter to this family. On that note, there are also plenty of military engineers and technicians who want to create top-tier artillery and fortifications. It's not unheard of for several members of the family to become Knights of various Orders, especially those able to protect people, rich or poor. Because this house has historically prioritized defensive strategies and decisions, this tends to make itself apparent even in the livelihoods of said soldiers or Knights. It isn't unheard of for Salas fighters to constantly be sporting the biggest shields possible. House Salas also frequently employs lower-class people in their servantry. There has almost always been one trusted servant hand aiding the leading patriarchs, and for this, these trusted servants earned the nickname and unofficial title of "Hidalgo" to indicate the trust their hard work has earned them.
Romona Valentina Eva Maria Jiménez Salas is the most recent Viscountess, appointed after her father decided to prioritize his health. She is 28 years old, unmarried, and has never courted. However, Romona has decided to adopt three children from an orphanage near her castle estate, Puerta de Pierda, also known as "Stone Gate," before considering any marriage prospects. When asked why, she simply states that she has always wanted a big family.
Romona is known for her deep appreciation of her family's craft and history. She often tours the older fortresses to ensure they are well-maintained and to identify any flaws. She has always been excited about the prospect of leading, and at a young age, she is one of the youngest Salases to do so.
Romona has a great love for domesticated animals and those found in the forests of Entierra. It is not uncommon for her to bring animals home to be kept in stables or farms. However, she is not one to do much dirty work herself. Since she acquired the Viscountess title, she has entrusted staff and knowledgeable members of society to help her manage things she is not familiar with, such as budgeting and financing for construction, taxes, contract management, and other higher-level tasks.
Like many in Tierravera, Romona insists on having at least an hour's rest every day for siesta. She also does not consider it urgent to be on time for parties or other affairs.

Please keep in mind the eldest daughter is 28, so ideally if you're applying to play one of the sisters, you should be aging them at 27 years old maximum, with the youngest likely being around 22 or 23. The Salas family is very extensive, so cousins and bastards are always possible. Aunts and uncles, too. The adopted children also cannot be aged up or played, as I'm canonizing them to be infants. I may change my mind and have it so Romona adopted them as teenagers, but currently am unwilling to do so.
I have nothing set in stone for what the sisters are like in personality or specific design. My only exception is that I heavily discourage and dissuade any stereotypical "Daen criminal" mindsets because I think that has been played to high heaven and is a terrible misrepresentation of this culture. That said, being a little politically devious is fine.
For House Staff Recruitment
Always up for concepts and ideas here. If you'd like to be employed as a handmaiden or other direct staff of help, or even a guard of sorts, just let me know. There are some limitations here in terms of what kind of Races will be employed, but nothing out of the ordinary (e.g., Kathar will probably be a no unless they're Regalian Kathar).
