So, not quite sure all the parameters I should go through when introducing myself, but I'm happy to be here! The name I usually go by is Alex, since that's usually a lot easier than calling me End or Credits or something like that. I've been playing Minecraft for 6 years, if you'll excuse the time I accidentally lost my entire account for a year or two, but I've never done an official roleplay type situation on here! I've played a couple sessions of D&D, as well as made the rounds since 2014 on a small website called Quotev, which most people use for roleplaying nowadays. I'm glad to meet you all!

Welcome to MassiveCraft!

If you see me online, feel free to message me! I can show you the ropes of roleplaying on the server. Until then!

Tata!

I'm still trying to figure out how to work on proficiencies- I get that they're like skill points, but if you don't intend for your character to be the great hero of legend, instead more of a regular old shopkeep npc, how would you place them?

The max skill points you can put in any skill is 30 (Apart from racial/cultural boosts). So you don't have to be a hero or anything, but it really just depends on what your character is good at, what they have done.

Thank you! I've been scratching my head trying to figure it all out for hours! Not because it's hard to understand, it was just hard for me to format it in my brain as npc talk!

Ah alright. But just to clarify we don't play NPCs, we play characters. If you want to play a more generic character though, that's fine too! And it's probably a good starting choice aswell. If you want to know some of the basic chat syntax for when you're roleplaying though, I've put it in the spoiler below.

l: this changes channels to local, which is the channel we use to roleplay in, or talk with people near us. Proximity chat is enabled in this.

+ put this after your sentence to make it as if your character is emoting something. For example: Karl wipes the table with a cloth+
This is the italicized text you usually see in chat. If you put quotes in the emote though, that usually means whatever is in them the character says.

* put this at the end of your sentence to whisper, usually people only in a one or two block radius can hear you.

$ Put this at the end of your sentence to mutter. Usually a five block radius or something like that.

! Put this at the end of your sentence to exclaim something. Not quite a shout, but in a raised voice.

!! The same as above, but a shout, carries slightly farther.

!!! This is a scream. Although usually you just emote it when your character screams in pain or frustration. This is typically used for verbal screams.

@ Announce, this carries very very far and is only typically used by town criers, or by characters with strong voices announcing something. Like an event I suppose.

I just haven't found an appropriate term for those generic characters, so I call them "npcs" for convenience- Sometimes you just don't want to be the great grand hero of legend who saves the day, sometimes you just want to be the regular Joe Shmoe who runs the tavern and helps keep spirits high, y'know? And since that's usually what npcs do, I thought the term worked out well enough! Plus, I think it always helps immersion to have an actual player shopkeep, rather than people saying "I converse with the shopkeep and purchase a small trinket" before moving along- Hopefully that all makes sense-

Hello and welcome to Massive! Always wonderful to see someone new and active about!

I certainly remember my first few days well, and you can be certain I didn't realize the forums existed until about 3 months later, so uh, props to you on finding them so much quicker than I did I certainly know too it can look daunting Massive, but really, once you get used to it, you're all set!

NPC is a term usually used to refer to a character that can be assumed to be there IC (I.E. the many guards about the city or crowds milling about) but not actually played by a person(s) at that moment. So thaaaat's why we usually use character instead of NPC, but I do see what you mean! And yeah, nah, there are very few people who actually play those sorts of 'hero' characters.. if none at all.. since, it's frowned to have such a 'perfect' character and generally it's kinda difficult to be a hero like that while still being fun to RP with. Most people play some sort of regular person, like you do! Albeit they may not be strictly human, and maybe am Allar (lizard race) or a Varran,(cat race), a Nelfin (General term for Elves) too! Or.. one of the many subtypes of any of those! There really is a lot of lore compared to when I joined, but you've got it!

Personally I've always actually loved shopkeep RP (being the shopkeeper that is), although some folk like guard, noble, magic, or criminal RP more. There really are a number of niches to be played in terms of job RP-- plenty of barkeep jobs, I know that for certain. For now though i'm quite content with playing my Al-Allar (Logical and meek Allar subrace) though, and maybe i'll see you about as my ancient character Zuzumi!

If you ever need help too, you're always welcome to ping me on Discord (Ezalb#1047) or message me on the server-- forums too!
