Autumn Thoughts

One of the more ornate bedrooms of Northlake stood quiet, at least for the moment. It had the signs of being recently inhabited, with an atraves leaning in a corner next to a slightly burned set of armor, and a pile of clothing not far from that. The early morning sun shining through the windows also revealed a mussed-up bed, currently devoid of a blanket. Whatever, or whoever, had snatched that particular piece of bedding away was a mystery, but not for long.

A rather irritated and tired-looking Cieli shuffled through the door just then, the blanket from the bed wrapped around her shoulders and a cup of tea in her hands. The Altalar had made some attempt to look presentable, but it was clear that she had been woken up not long before, and was none too happy about it. She kicked off her boots and made her way back to the bed, which was not exactly hers, but at the moment, it was the one she used. It was rather comfortable, more than the one in her house, and she made a mental note to look into replacing that when this whole crisis was over.

She settled back into the bed, securely wrapping the blanket around herself before taking a sip from her cup. Cieli had never been much of a morning person, and she was sore and cold. Therefore, she needed some tea. Tea in bed was an even better proposition, where the Altalar could rest her still battered limbs comfortably. At least her arm was not burned anymore; the bruises were more than manageable compared to that.

She considered the trees outside of her room as she sipped at her drink, their leaves starting to turn yellow in the early September air. That was not a good sign, at least to her. While autumn itself was full of delightful things like cider, pies, and festivals, the change of weather it brought was entirely unpleasant. No amount of pumpkins and spices could stop the cold. Cieli gently rubbed her cup with her thumbs for a moment, then set it down into her lap. This winter was already shaping up to be difficult, like her first in the city. Vampires on top of that, well. She sincerely hoped this whole nonsense would be over well before then. The cold was bad enough, but a famine and vampire occupation on top of that? Well. She didn't have words for that.
