• Inventory Split Incoming

MassiveCraft will be implementing an inventory split across game modes to improve fairness, balance, and player experience. Each game mode (Roleplay and Survival) will have its own dedicated inventory going forward. To help players prepare, we’ve opened a special storage system to safeguard important items during the transition. For full details, read the announcement here: Game Mode Inventory Split blog post.

Your current inventories, backpacks, and ender chest are in the shared Medieval inventory. When the new Roleplay inventory is created and assigned to the roleplay world(s) you will lose access to your currently stored items.

    Important Dates

    • April 1: Trunk storage opens.
    • May 25: Final day to submit items for storage.
    • June 1: Inventories are officially split.

Please make sure to submit any items you wish to preserve in the trunk storage or one of the roleplay worlds before the deadline. After the split, inventories will no longer carry over between game modes.

Hello! My name is Percuriam and I have always been obsessed with magic and spellcasting and all that jazz. On top of this I am heading the new magic system with MonMarty and will be processing all your hopeful applications to gain special permissions, talking about them with lore staff, and ( hopefully ) approving them.

However this isnt at all about special permissions. Well, maybe a little bit. Over the past couple of months I've become less satisfied with how magic is used in character and how people work it into those characters, as well as how illegal it is to use it in Regalia. I'd like to change that and get all you aspiring or current mages involved in talking about it. On top of this, I'd like to create an IC organization for Mages and Silven ( and maybe some other magic affected groups ) to be able to rally together and progress each other through IC interaction. Through this I can also see first hand how you are using your permissions and give you direction you might need to make your characters flourish.

So:

What type of organization would you want to see?
  • Should we be a proper mages college?
  • Maybe a new rendition of the Azure Order, but less oppressive?
  • A band of for sale spellswords and casters?
  • Or something else?

What type of character would you want to see leading something like this?

How can we improve the desire to play magic characters from an IC and OOC perspective?

How do you want to be a part of this, and how would you like mages to interact with each other?

For people who currently play a mage or silven, or a similarly arcane afflicted character:
  • Is that character your main? Why or why not?
  • What would encourage that character to join an organization like this?
  • What do you and your character want to gain from something like this?
  • What type of mage or mages do you generally lean towards? Combat casters? Scholarly sorcerers? Wild and wacky Wellen users? ( looking at you, Mae Draylas. )
  • What type of Silven do you play and what compels you to pick that type?
For people wanting to apply for magic or silvenism or another magical affliction in the future:
  • What would motivate you and your character to pursue and join this organization?
  • What would you and your character want to get out of this?
  • What type of mage or mages interests you the most?
For people who DO NOT intend to play a mage or silven or other magically afflicted character, but would be interested in joining:
  • What would motivate you and your character to join something like this?
  • What would you and your character want to get out of it?
  • What role would you want to take and how would you like to interact with others?
Got any other feedback? Feel free to share it.

Is that character your main? Why or why not?

pretty much always had a mage as my main, whether it was a full on mage or spellsword build.

What would encourage that character to join an organization like this?

the promise of learning more about what's affecting them and how to use it more effectively to their ability, as well as meeting like-minded individuals that could create cohesive friendships.

What do you and your character want to gain from something like this?

I specifically find a like-minded learning environment very conductive to roleplay, just like the Azure Order and O.A.R.S before that.

What type of mage or mages do you generally lean towards? Combat casters? Scholarly sorcerers? Wild and wacky Wellen users?

I generally lean towards a mix of combat proficiency and magic casting, so combat caster I suppose. I find that being able to find use in a small amount of spells and then having some kind or proficiency to dip back into to make the character more interesting makes them more appealing to play

What type of Silven do you play and what compels you to pick that type?

I'm playing an Exist Silven because I wanted to explore a more innocent type of identity crisis where someone who was considered mediocre for their affliction suddenly finds meaning in it and has to find out what they have to do with it, whether they want to do anything with it at all. Silven who actually play on their affliction as something that constantly plays on their mind are the best imo

What type of organization would you want to see?

specifically a mage-college type area, though I can also see that not being incentive for certain types of characters, so maybe they could be hired out to certain other organisations? it might not be needed, though, since I think the promise of being able to learn more magic is enough

What type of character would you want to see leading something like this?

i'd like a character that seems motivated to do something rather than a mysterious background figure, considering that I find players are more inclined to follow orders from someone who is tangible in game

How can we improve the desire to play magic characters from an IC and OOC perspective?

the only real problem I have is from an IC perspective, and that's that magic is completely outlawed in most cases, though this is already addressed in the OP so on that front I have no issue

How do you want to be a part of this, and how would you like mages to interact with each other?

i've already envisioned my character as a student-type that's shaping his magic through in-game events rather than a pre-built spell set, so i'd probably take on a minor supporting role in terms of a group if he were to join. i'd like to see mages working towards a similar goal, but maybe some emphasis on competition/training each other since (in my admittedly limited experience) i haven't seen many mage vs mage situations

What type of organization would you want to see?
I don't think the Azure Order should exist as a player ran group. If it had to come back, it should serve as a "state monitored education system" that allows mages to cast in a specific building for research and the like.

At the same time, the sewers should have some sort of underground mage group to study more "dark magic" away from the Azure Order's eyes.

What type of character would you want to see leading something like this?
I think it would have to be an NPC/EPC Grand Vigil played by a lore staff member to direct anything if they so choose.

How can we improve the desire to play magic characters from an IC and OOC perspective?
As someone who played a Construct Mage, I had a difficult time really highlighting the magic a a utility for anyone. Having a group of players that could've complimented my magic school may have been a good idea.

I do also have to note my magic went with a merchant booth, and lack of players visiting didn't help out.

How do you want to be a part of this, and how would you like mages to interact with each other?
I probably won't pick up a mage in the near future due to time constraints, possibly using the "dumbed down" public magic. If anything I'd probably be playing the group that either opposes magic on religious views or begrudgingly tolerates some magic for the good of the state, while hating it personally.

For people who currently play a mage or silven, or a similarly arcane afflicted character:
  • Is that character your main? Why or why not?
    • no longer approved and was only a main for a few weeks. I played them as a clockwork merchant, which suffered from a lack of online players as customers, eventually leading me to pursue other things to use my time better.
  • What would encourage that character to join an organization like this?
    • If I brought back the character, I'd want them to not be seen as "That mage" (ignoring construct magic being not a magic for this post). Collaring I see as a societal maim, and while that may be a risk needed for magic, there should be an option for "nice mages" to not have visual cues and only registered to be called on for work.
  • What do you and your character want to gain from something like this?
    • If I played the Techmage, recognition of Qadir clockwork (basically passive Esrah Alwattah worship)
  • What type of mage or mages do you generally lean towards? Combat casters? Scholarly sorcerers? Wild and wacky Wellen users? ( looking at you, Mae Draylas. )
    • magic that doesn't even feel like Magic. Soul Essence and Qadir tech.

hi im gonna respond to this and bold my answers so they're not lost in fluff

This is really cool! Personally, I'd really like to see a mage college, like College of Winterhold-esque. I think classes and courses and lectures are a nice change to the atmosphere of roleplay, lending to the creation of characters who are more scholarly than they are about fighting and killing. Maybe a blend between college and mage-regulatory force, so that the Azure Order type function isn't lost?

I'm not too particular about the type of character, just so long as they're a professor or educator of some sort. Admittedly, I'm not sure how magic classes would go since magic has become more free-form and less about individual known spells, but I'm sure it could work for the non-trustee mages.

I think magic's always been something that was sought after, but the creation of a group like this would certainly bolster it. Maybe they're tightly regulated by the government, and they have player quests and jobs to complete to gain goodwill from the community? I'd love to see mages in some sort of competition, or just more scholars in general.

I don't play a mage, but I'd be interested in doing so, so I'll answer the second set of questions:

I'd be motivated to join if it were large, like the magical-counterpart to the guard. It'd be so great to make it feel more like an organization, rather than a temporary gang or fad. I think I'd like to get more RP like you gave at the event, big arcane events, magical mystery, stuff like that. I've always liked support/utility types, though not healing, rather than simple fire and the rest.

Hey sorry if my answers suck but I tried to just be honest lol

What type of organization would you want to see?
  • Maybe a new rendition of the Azure Order, but less oppressive?
    • Personally I love the idea of it being pretty oppressive. Like a bunch of Anti-Mage zealots and stuff. It's a good antagonist to the mages, I guess.

What type of character would you want to see leading something like this?

Some zealous boi

How can we improve the desire to play magic characters from an IC and OOC perspective?

I think it's already pretty desirable. Perhaps add more* avenues for mages to go down for the players who want to be like, pro-regalia? IE positions within the witch-hunting Azure and guard or whatever

How do you want to be a part of this, and how would you like mages to interact with each other?

Well like, I've been on Massive for around four years, and magic stuff is by far the most interesting thing to me. I want to be part of this in pretty much any way I can. I'd like mages to interact with each other in the sense that the more ambitious could maybe prove themselves as the "superior" mage, maybe climb some kind of hierarchy.

For people who currently play a mage or silven, or a similarly arcane afflicted character:

  • Is that character your main? Why or why not?
    • They're one of my two mains. Namely because the character idea is really fun and interesting to me, and I enjoy playing them.
  • What would encourage that character to join an organization like this?
    • The ability to assert themselves as somehow superior to other mages, maybe? I'm not sure.
  • What do you and your character want to gain from something like this?
    • Me, fun roleplay and story lines; the ability to help get my character into a position where they can act as a villain / antagonist to others. Ic wise, my character would probably be doing it for power.
  • What type of mage or mages do you generally lean towards? Combat casters? Scholarly sorcerers? Wild and wacky Wellen users?
    • Battlemage / Combat Caster
  • What type of Silven do you play and what compels you to pick that type?
    • My Silven (Anri) is kind of a "blood for the blood gods!" type of person. They were raised in Kathar culture amongst the Cult of Destruction, so they're the kind who believes they're a gift from the gods and whatnot. I picked that type because I like getting to fill the antagonist role and felt that this fit really well for that aesthetic.

What type of organization would you want to see?
I think it should be a new rendition of the azure order. I always heard so much about them but never actually saw them in roleplay, and I think it would be a fun roleplay dynamic between heretics and ordermen. I would personally play a member of the azure order if it was available. But regardless, I'd like to see a new rendition of the azure order except having it more player-run, like the way current guards are run. There would have to have boundaries set or whatnot of course, so there would still be opportunity to play ordermen and mage within reason. For example, you could have it be that ordermen can only enter the slums during a certain time of day or something.

What type of character would you want to see leading something like this?
kreepy old lady, who is super passive-aggressive. Like school principal while you are in her office passive-aggressive.

How can we improve the desire to play magic characters from an IC and OOC perspective?
Don't rewrite the magic system so often, rewrites too often might draw away players. I liked the old system of magic before they we're all categorized and cut in half. This was when fire magic and water magic were two separate things, not just "elemental magic"

How do you want to be a part of this, and how would you like mages to interact with each other?
Playing an azure order would be fun, and I've been thinking about an es-allar

What type of organization would you want to see?

Having been part of the last rendition of the Azure Order, I would love to see it return in a different form as opposed to seeing a magic school/college. Having an acting Order made up of a leading circle of mages that oversee the magic activity in Regalia and act as the first point of contact for both mages/Silven and the Imperial court would be the best approach in my opinion. However, I really like the idea of a band of 'spellswords' (considering my next main chracter is planned to be one) and think it could work as a subsection of this system, overseen and managed by one of the leading members.

What type of character would you want to see leading something like this?

I think the best type of character/s would be experienced mages who already have a good relation with the Emperor/Imperial Court (to prevent the initial distrust usually seen when someone is appointed the head of a magical organisation). Someone who wants to use what they know to usher in a new age of magic with firm, but fair management and will step in with force if a mage goes out of line (but would let the lesser mages handle it or allow the rogue to go off on their own rather than stomping it out themselves to allow conflict RP).

How can we improve the desire to play magic characters from an IC and OOC perspective?

I think this could be improved by having more need for mages when it comes to certain events or conflicts (though not to the point of barring non-mages from attending, as this is somewhat offputting). Perhaps creating a festival focused around the display of magic, or more need for magic characters to be present in Regalia by allowing noble houses and guard charters to make use of them. Ultimately, lessening the hatred and suspicion of magic characters among charters and nobility would bring magic away from slum RP and make it more mainstream and appealing.

How do you want to be a part of this, and how would you like mages to interact with each other?

I would want to be apart of this as a member (rather than a pupil), who is able to make use of the resources offered, have a place to meet like-minded people and either practice or use magic for work, research or contribution to the Empire. Mages should be able to join a sector/s that suits their character and have someone they can report to that is specialised (a combat castor who can direct spellswords/sellswords to current jobs, a scholar handling arcane research, etc). It would also be good to have practice areas and rooms/libraries for socialising so the area can be used as a magic hub and easily accessible by both old and new mages, creating a community feel.

For people who currently play a mage or silven, or a similarly arcane afflicted character:

Is that character your main? Why or why not?

My current mage has become less of a priority and more of a side character due to other characters requiring more use. However, this character was largely used as a test for a completely magic-based character (with no combat skill), which was a success but showed me I prefered characters built around fighting instead.

What would encourage that character to join an organization like this?

Having a voice for mages within the city would make my character willing to join, which is why he previously joined the Arcane Ministry, and an opportunity to contribute towards bettering the city with his abilities. This could be achieved through research labs, story webs, perhaps a need for mages to document their spells (better with the new system of mage).

What do you and your character want to gain from something like this?

I would want to gain opportunity to contribute on this character and be recognised for it, alongside being generally accepted rather than shoved aside as he expects most mages to be. Being part of something important with other mages like him would be a major selling point.

What type of mage or mages do you generally lean towards? Combat casters? Scholarly sorcerers? Wild and wacky Wellen users? ( looking at you, Mae Draylas. )

My first and current mage has been a scholar/researcher with some rogue skills thrown in, although I have not found it as enjoyable as my mundane characters. For a longterm main character (that I am currently planning), I would lean towards a combat caster if the system allowed for such a character to be useful and beneficial (rather than just limited to the slums).

OH BOY A SET OF QUESTIONS TO ANSWER
What type of organization would you want to see?
Though I wasn't involved with the Azure Order initially, I'd love to see it come back as something less fully-damning for mages. We your local Divine Militia have been trying to involve some form of collar system that allows for small and community-contributing mages to have their collars removed over time instead of just having a static "You have this collar on now, better like it" approach.

What type of character would you want to see leading something like this?
Preferably a zealot who'd prefer introducing aberrations to Unionism rather than outright oppressing and forcing them into one role. Rather than "kill/oppress/undermine all aberrations", it'd be interesting to have something more along the lines of "think my way, or you'll be killed/oppressed/undermined" when approaching aberrations. It'd allow for a cool dynamic where you either have to follow along, pretend to follow along, or be hunted, instead of just stopping at the initial collaring.
also im incredibly biased but hallowbloods were all oppressed aberrations at some point so maybe one of those..............

How can we improve the desire to play magic characters from an IC and OOC perspective?
I like the new approach of making parlor trick magic accessible to others. Something that's just a lil' fun without a big oppression downside would likely encourage arcane scholars who aren't also big boy mages or mages who entertain people, a bit like the water mages of old. I'm pretty sure if the new minor magics didn't cost a lot of points or were treated (fairly) as less dangerous and horrifying as big boy magic ICly, people'd pick it up pretty quickly.
I'll talk from my own experience why I didn't play a mage when I was Trustee, which was simply that I didn't feel like I'd do it justice. I tried about twice, though lost motivation for one character and removed the magic from the other, as I struggled with the idea that I was either min-maxing or not even close to the level of other played Mages. It's probably just a "Me" thing, but with magic on a lesser level becoming more accessible, I feel like I might work on a parlor trick mage of my own. Maybe even an Isldar...

How do you want to be a part of this, and how would you like mages to interact with each other?
If the Azure Order came back? I'd join it, definitely. Whether that be with my main or a currently underplayed Etosian, I'd be all for it. Teaching Mages' the Great Way through the sword would be cool. I'd definitely try to get involved from at least an outside perspective with things like a magic college or a band of spellswords, either as an ally or an enemy.

I've been involved with a lot of the currently played Mages, and I feel like a bit of an intruder to say how mages should ideally interact with one another. Feels a bit like a little kid smushing dolls together and saying "Kiss!" Frankly, I haven't seen a lot of inter-magical conflict recently, though that may just be a result of the groups that I'm in. I don't see two Wellen-throwers fighting eachother, or a battle between a Void and Exist Mage over which is less evil, and it seems that most mages right now are sort-of getting along. I'd personally enjoy seeing more mages and Silven butting heads.

What type of organization would you want to see?

Personally, I'd prefer something more quiet and hush-hush. With the nature of Magic in Regalia, I'd find a college rather glaringly obvious to be harassed by the state for mage this mage that. I would think something that is kept quiet and more like an 'in the know' type deal, to where mages go out to select people to offer them training at a center (Possibly and 'underground' college) and to harness their abilities to avoid the manhunt of the state by keeping them well hidden.

What type of character would you want to see leading something like this?

I'd like to see a mysterious, yet active individual like that of a grandmaster who wants to spread knowledge, but their motives are to be discovered much down the path through IC interaction.

How can we improve the desire to play magic characters from an IC and OOC perspective?

I believe mages are already well desired by the community, but I feel with the coming lore changes some will find it not as shiny as they think. With inquisition manhunts or not realizing the mistakes of magic use, I fell some chars may be dropped rather quickly, so my hope for this institution to to as stated, teach mages how to keep their abilities on the down-low for good rp and to keep interest in the char.

How do you want to be a part of this, and how would you like mages to interact with each other?

I'd love to be involved completely in this as a student, and possibly IC work up to progress in organization if positions are offered. I'd like it to be a neutral ground for mages for the sake of learning, but of course offering magic pit fights and etc for those who wanna expand their combat skills IC and OOC with the use of Magic.
  • Is that character your main? Why or why not?
    • My Mage (A'eollaja Ello'janna) Is my main, as she has been much of my most well developed and favorite char in my time of rp.
  • What would encourage that character to join an organization like this?
    • Neutrality, and the promise of power in magic. I'd hope that the state does not work with this institution as for chars such as my own who aren't in good with the state due to their magical abilities, being barred from the rp of the institute.
  • What do you and your character want to gain from something like this?
    • For my char's interests, the pursuit of growth in the field of magic, and the possibility of teaching more students then she currently has. For my own, to have fun rp outside of combat and politics with just the fun that is magic in the system, and to actively drive rp with such a institution, along helping new magic-ers learn how to use it.
  • What type of mage or mages do you generally lean towards? Combat casters? Scholarly sorcerers? Wild and wacky Wellen users? ( looking at you, Mae Draylas. )
    • I personally enjoy evil-Aligned mages/magics, as I really enjoy Scholarly mages, Wicked sorcerers, and Dark Casters.
  • What type of Silven do you play and what compels you to pick that type?
    • I play a Beast Silven (Void) As I wanted to breath life into an old char with the lore of Wandering sickness. I've found it gave me a boost to IC and OOC purpose for a char I wouldn't really find among the Crown Isle, but really enjoyed a while back.

General Questions
What type of organization would you want to see?
The Azure Order was done, and though it worked well with Rikkira's Arken Generals, I feel any Arcane Organisation niche ought to be covered by the Arcane Ministry. The new magic could act as Pro-State Magic niche and a shadier Arcane College could act like State-Neutral or Coveted Magic niche, away from State eyes.
  • Most Mages RP with each other regardless, there's always this subconscious circle of Silven or Mages or Aberrants that will always hang out at the Falcon or the Dragon.
  • A Centralised Area for Mages to police themselves around some Sewer Ruins, to practice their craft, relax and learn from one another would easily bolster centralized magic RP tenfold. It wouldn't take much drive or management, considering how closely True Mages will be chosen. (I.e. Trustee Mages)
  • Otherwise, it's only really used in combat, very subtle utility RP, or Progression Missions.
What type of character would you want to see leading something like this?
  • I'm personally in favour of a self-policed Hotspot for Mages, regulated by the Mages with the most influence among their arcane peers etc. But that's just me.
  • I'm sure Mentor-Type Characters will always rise to the occasion if Trustees are interested in that.
How can we improve the desire to play magic characters from an IC and OOC perspective?
  • I'm of the strong opinion that there's no need for improvement. There's always been an incredible drive for players to play mages, be it small or powerful mages.
  • Most of the time the Common mage really only has 4-5 spell so it's more about aesthetic than pure magical power.
  • I honestly believe a Non-Trustee Magic System will see a huge spike in Magic Users regardless.
  • The idea of Freeform Magic alone will probably cause a huge influx of aspiring Mages.

Personal Questions
What would motivate you and your character to pursue and join this organization?
  • Just being able to cast personalized/freeform magic would be more than enough.
What would you and your character want to get out of this?
  • I've always been a big fan of magic in fiction and occult history IRL, and I've enjoyed Magic RP in the past. Any kind of Arcane Hotspot would provide interaction and spicy Arcane drama.
  • My Characters tend to act as Mentors mainly, or just hotspots of advice for the Arcane or Arken Haggling. So being able to influence a group of teen-rp mages would be fun both IC and OOC.
What type of mage or mages interests you the most?
  • Mentor Mages, eccentric types with rituals and runes, but not so far removed from the other mages to come across as a Dumbledore-Type.
  • Mind Magic has always been my personal preferred niche of Magic, ever since the old Hex Magic. I find creating illusions and charming objects to look otherworldly is an easy way to propagate a plot between players without needing to constantly be there.

I'll keep this short and simple cause @TheBioverse (Above) basically said all my ideas and more. :)
What type of organization would you want to see?
Lots of things, but I think maybe a less oppressive Azure Order. But mostly a Mage College. I have always loved the idea of a Mage College, but considering how magic is seen in Regalia, this is practically impossible. Also, I'd like to see more stuff out of the Arcane Ministry. The Synod and stuff treat it like a Charter organization, but in truth, it's part of the Regalian government and should have way more rights concerning magical documentation and study.

The other thing (Which actually probably shouldn't be included in roleplay due to their secrecy) is the Evocarorum. They seem to hold a lot of power and influence in Regalia but it only seems to be behind the scenes. It could be briefly hinted in Progressions that "A certain magical organization" did something, and though the progression does not necessarily mention anything about the Evocarorum, it implies that that's who it is.

What type of character would you want to see leading something like this?
This seems pretty far-fetched considering, well... me, but I'd think a character like my own, Beni Jjinete'viento would be great for leading a Mage College. Though I originally made him to be a really nice energetic dreamer, he turned out to be one of those solemn thinkers who rarely smiles in public but can be great to talk to in one-on-one conversations. He also is really interested into the spread and learning of magic as well as its research. he is really against the oppression and discrimination of mages in Regalia, considering that he came from Daen, so I think a character like him would be great for leading a mage school.

How can we improve the desire to play magic characters from an IC and OOC perspective?
I think what Marty proposed on the post-summer reworks is perfect.

How do you want to be a part of this, and how would you like mages to interact with each other?
Well, these new organizations could really bring them together, but most mages/silven tend to find their way towards each other either way. This could be because most magical progressions require some magical way to deal with the situation at hand, therefore forcing some magic characters to interact within certain progressions.

For people wanting to apply for magic or silvenism or another magical affliction in the future:
  • What would motivate you and your character to pursue and join this organization?
  • What would you and your character want to get out of this?
  • What type of mage or mages interests you the most?
  • I've always been interested in magic, but magical organizations have always been my favorite. All my past magical characters are all on the more scholarly side of things so whenever they are conducting research, being in an arcane organization makes it easier to obtain and spread new ideas.
  • Firstly, it would make sense for Beni to be a mage, considering it's been his dream for almost a hundred years and he's been surrounded by mages his entire life. But besides that, I think magic could really motivate me to roleplay more often. Also, since most of the organizations Beni is in are arcane, the people there tend to be mages and silven (#ArcaneMinistry :) ). So whenever they go out to some "magical things," Beni is always unable to attend due to his lack of magic. I know this can really increase roleplay quality and it forces him to roleplay with other groups which also increases roleplay, but after a while it gets boring.
  • This changes every week, literally. You can call me weird for this, but I spend like an hour each day re-reading the entire-magic schools pages so often that my perspective on each of the magics constantly changes. In this way, I have (At some point or another) been really interested in each of the magic schools. currently it's Leveia, Celestial, and Mine Magic.

What type of organization would you want to see?
  • Or something else?
Something along the lines of what @TheBioverse said. Not necessarily a college or state organized organization or place, but a gathering spot or secret meeting area for magical beings to interact with one another free of judgement. I know this sounds like an odd reference but maybe something like "Wizard City" from Adventure Time. It was hidden away in plain sight and only wizards - magical beings in our case - could access it. Plus, I moved seeing all the weird random magical beings messing around with each other in the background and I think people who aren't tying to be "huge players" or like voldemorts would enjoy a place they could be... casually magical.

What type of character would you want to see leading something like this?

Maybe a council of sorts? A representative from the varying magical beings? Mages, Silven, Witchbloods, Possessed, etc.

How can we improve the desire to play magic characters from an IC and OOC perspective?

We'll have to see what happens when this new magic system rolls out, but I'm assuming it'll be easy to find people wanting to play magical characters.

How do you want to be a part of this, and how would you like mages to interact with each other?

For people wanting to apply for magic or silvenism or another magical affliction in the future:
  • What would motivate you and your character to pursue and join this organization?
I have, personally, always been interested in - and once upon a time a driving force in the creation of - magic on massive and I'm always down to be a part of the magical community one way or another. Regardless of which character I decide to make, having some sort of community is why they'd end up with whatever is made considering how magic is viewed around Aloria as it is.
  • What would you and your character want to get out of this?
I'd like to offer my experience doing what it is you're trying to do from an OOC standpoint, I like developing systems and the like and world building is always fun. IC, my character would probably want... Something. It just depends on who I make or bring back. I don't think C*me will be making a come back (haha see what I did there) as a mage at least, but maybe the OG OG OG OG OG could be a cranky old grandpa offering (maybe senile?) advice.
  • What type of mage or mages interests you the most?
Really depends on... the character. I've played grandiose powerful mages in the ancient past, slyer and more unsuspecting mages more recently (looking at u c*me), and depending on how this new magic system works will depend on how I incorporate magic into whichever mage character I play next.

Got any other feedback? Feel free to share it.

Not sure, depends on how this system works. You have my discord, @Percuriam feel free to msg me there if you'd like some feedback. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

What type of organisation would you want to see?

  • I really like the idea of a mage college, due to the possible atmosphere it could bring. There are many sides of magic that could be shared and focused on in an educational manner, offering more insight for individuals that have the scholarly part of it to even combat associated magic. But I also loved participating in the Azure Order type charter aswell, which allowed so many story-lines to be involved within. It gave chances to characters of an interest in the arcane, along with a job that allowed developed to many a person character wise.

  • What type of character would you want to see leading something like this? Someone that knows the specifics of the order they're trying to accomplish, with a strong goal set in mind and the knowledge to back them up around the arcane. Being able to influence younger and less experienced mages.

  • How can we improve the desire to play magic characters from an IC and OOC perspective? I feel it could be improved by having more opportunities of work for mages openly within the city, using their skills to enhance and participate in perhaps noble houses or general events. But the order and college suggested above would most likely boost the want to play a magical character, as it adds a sense of excitement of being involved in such a fun opportunity.

  • How do you want to be a part of this, and how would you like mages to interact with each other? I would love to be apart of this as a proper member, as a like-minded mage that wants to contribute to the empire within arcane skill to even development of magic handling in general to support the grounds of learning and progress. Being able to interact with other mages on a daily basis, learning and researching different principles due to having an open space to train and go to as a safe haven of arcane is something that sounds so eagerly exciting.

For people who currently play a mage or silven, or a similarly arcane afflicted character:

  • Is that character your main? Why or why not? My main character is someone that I've had for a long time, and the development I've had for him has been amazing. I enjoy the concept of him as a whole, even throughout the ups and downs of his life-story.

  • What would encourage that character to join an organisation like this? The character has always been inspired to join arcane related organisations due to his general interest and want to discover more within the arcane realm. But being able to help use his skills for the empire, and having a voice despite his origin would help encourage.

  • What do you and your character want to gain from something like this? Being able to make a difference whilst using the abilities of a mage, and not being pushed away from an opportunity due to it. He'd like to delve deeper into the arcane, whilst working to serve the state in hopes of a little respect.

  • What type of mage or mages do you generally lean towards? Combat casters? Scholarly sorcerers? Wild and wacky Wellen users? I usually tend to stick to combat casters or protection casters. Since my character has had so many good experiences with the type, it's fun to have a little mix. It's also a good type as it relates to the goals of my character, and the hopes of aiding them further.

  • What type of Silven do you play and what compels you to pick that type? I play a Void Silven, due to my interest in the more void inflicted side of the coin. It has always intrigued me how a silven reacts on a daily basis, and I wanted to give it my own go within a character design. Which is now my main character.

What type of organization would you want to see?
I always liked the idea of the Azure Order, especially the #DeepLore side tangent where they may or may not be under the control of a crazy possession-riddled mutant psychopath. I would love to see the Azure's brought back, maybe under a different name, but divided like a charter system to facilitate both policing and research. So, it would have seperate "Charters" for different branches (Names just as placeholders TM).
  • The Binders who police and register mages, a lawful-neutral esk group like most guard groups. Probably run like a charter too with players etc.
  • The Censors, book-burners and slightly more extremist who try to destroy any and all sources of darker-leaning knowledge and are probably less tolerant of even the safe/good magics than their counterparts. Probably NPCs for plotty reasons maybe whipped out for events, as a shadowy element, but maybe played.
  • The Pioneers, who experiment with magic and try to harness it in unique ways, along with sending missions to explore ruins and discover lost magis and magic-related knowledge.
  • The Arkobellum (spelling?) that evil totally-not-lead-by-a-psychopathic-mutant-demon, hidden from the public entity that invents all the arkan-harnessing magical machinery, 100% NPCs, fuel progressions, maybe rarely contact the underworld for more illegal doings. Basically like Area 51 for Regalia, nobody even acknowledges they exist and if you try to convince people they do, you take a long trip to a farm.
Especially with the last, Arkobellum group, I understand some things are kept vague for the sake of Deep Lore and to avoid meta, but using that group as an excuse to actually put, SOLID, established information on how Arken-Fueled magic works and its hard limits etc so the machines that get whipped out pretty commonly in story stop feeling so Deus Ex Machina.

What type of character would you want to see leading something like this?
Each branch can have its own leaders, the player-filled charter-esk ones probably even being literally players like Guard Commanders are etc. The Arkobellum should probably still be the same crazy mutant demon dude for continuity and feel. Having the actual, top of the pyramid leader of the group be rumored to be some insane, dark and brooding menacing old lady, fueled maybe a little by rumors of the Arkobellum's work, only for her to actually be a sweet old lady who makes tea and sits around might be fun. A little cliche but fun.

How can we improve the desire to play magic characters from an IC and OOC perspective?
I don't think there is a need to. People gravitate towards power, and magic is powerful. Specifically to interact with this theoretical group, I would say establish benefits like, Proficiency boosts and items that temporarily grant some minor magic effects in the line with the Caltrops previously talked about in other posts. So, while in the charters under the Azure you get +10 Magic Knowledge, and depending on the group you might get an item that grants a utility spell.

How do you want to be a part of this, and how would you like mages to interact with each other?
I probably won't get directly involved but If I were to, as I said, organizing it as a charter would be good for group RP. Not all characters would need to be mages, but the groups that would be: The Pioneers as I labeled them, would be mostly cooperative to investigate magic etc. Other factions in the group and without could be given reasons to dislike them. Maybe Binders have to listen to the orders of Censors officers and since the Censors are more extreme it can create conflict with outside groups. Maybe the Azure's have some out-of-bounds feel to them so other proper guard charters have issues working with them because they mes shit up, etc. Idk. Letting mages learn and teach one another would be cool too.

Thank you for this thread, Perc!
  • What type of organization would you want to see?
    • A blend between a mage college and the Azure Order would be outstanding! Though, considering the climate in Regalia around magic, and the upcoming magic changes I would be fine if it remained a predominantly mage-regulatory organization. Honestly, I think mage players just want a place to associate themselves with in a positive way.
  • What type of character would you want to see leading something like this?
    • I personally find anything out of the standard when it comes to leaders of Regalian organizations to be compelling, especially when in a mage order. The overly zealous leader trope has gotten played out charter after charter, so something fresh would be nice! When considering the mage college aspect, some sort of mentor/guiding hand figure could also be interesting.
      • Resurrect Saud Nazari
  • How can we improve the desire to play magic characters from an IC and OOC perspective?
    • I think there's always been a consistent desire to play magic characters from an IC and OOC perspective on Massive! I wouldn't say there needs to be a change, especially with the new personalized magic coming into play.
  • How do you want to be a part of this, and how would you like mages to interact with each other?
    • I absolutely adore mage RP when I'm a part of a charter! If I'm a part of this, I look forward to climbing the ranks and showin' off a little around the city. Aside from that, I want mages to interact with each other in either a competitive way among peers, or in a familial sense. I definitely want these changes to bring a sense of unity in forming a small community of gifted mages and other afflicted.
Additional Questions (Actively playing an Existling mage)-
  • Is that character your main? Why or why not?
    • Yes! Djanira Acosta is my main since late 2016 (?) and I love playing her. I've finally created a character that just hits all my personal points of enjoyment. Her being a Silven and a mage is a serious part of that because I live for the magic lore.
  • What would encourage that character to join an organization like this?
    • Some of my best RP with Djanira has come from organizations similar to this. Being involved is part of her experience, so there's no doubt about her joining. ICly, Djanira thrives when she's able to work alongside other mages and Silven and reflect her experiences off of them. She works best when she has an outlet like that, and therefore is always keeping an eye out for the next opportunity.
  • What do you and your character want to gain from something like this?
    • We both want to gain recognition, a sense of community, and something concrete to direct our efforts towards!
  • What type of mage or mages do you generally lean towards?
    • When it comes to mage roleplay, I enjoy playing either the fanciful, eager to learn scholarly sorceress type (i.e. my main,) or the Void-corrupted social reject!
  • What type of Silven do you play and what compels you to pick that type?
    • I play Exist Silven because I prefer the aesthetic and the actual lore behind them, but I could play either or. I just enjoy Silven characters in general.

  • What would motivate you and your character to pursue and join this organization?:
    • Me: The idea of an official organization of mages and magic-scholars alike being able to keep track of and specialize in tackling magical events in and around Regalia. It'll be cool to see custom warlocks and mysterious new mages wandering around, fueling new plots and being more specialized than before.
    • Character: The "promise" of a safe haven for magic and learning, or even plots sparked by the organization that are a little away from the eyes of the State. There's a lot to be learned, especially since magic is going to be unique to individuals.
  • What would you and your character want to get out of this?:
    • Me: Well I, personally, love freeform magic rp. There's nothing else to that. However, I think that no longer being able to know what mages are around and who specializes in what will drive a lot of roleplay, and being in or associating with this group will facilitate a lot of that.
    • Character: For the character, on the other hand, they'd probably just want some sense of freedom. A lack of overbearing oppression by the Guard or the prying eyes of the Synod.
  • What type of mage or mages interests you the most?:
    • This is a very tough question to answer since magic can be so creative and imaginative. I really do like card magic, ritual-based magic (with cool arcane circles and runes), and soul magic (exorcists), but I also really love the idea of the run-of-the-mill wizard or warlock (like in d&d) with arcane servants, satchels and a Deck of Many Things. You can't beat the classics.

I know this isn't the format but...

Please, can we have passive and active magic? Like self sweeping brooms and self boiling kettles, or levitating trinkets. I want mages homes/businesses brimming with magic and wonderment. You know that diplomatic mission to Alloylae or whatchamacallit? That magic was extremely appealing to me.

Active magic is telekinesis and that kind of thing. I know, I know some folks are vey against "high fantasy" but we could confine it to a secret city as previously suggested.

What would motivate you and your character to pursue and join this organization?
Hector's main quest is knowledge, so an extensive library would do the trick.
As of ooc... A group where I could fit in and belong, and meet like-minded individuals. I love magic, so much. I love the lore, I know just about everything TO know about the current system. So... With any magic-oriented group, I'm here.
What type of mage or mages interests you the most?
Definitely the arcane theorists, or the trickster mages. The ones who work with intelligence rather than raw magical muscle
Should we be a proper mages college?
Yes yes yes!

Sorry my answers are so short, I'm on a tablef

The Arkobellum (spelling?) that evil totally-not-lead-by-a-psychopathic-mutant-demon, hidden from the public entity that invents all the arkan-harnessing magical machinery, 100% NPCs, fuel progressions, maybe rarely contact the underworld for more illegal doings. I totally agree with this. I think it's spelled Evocarorum, easily mistaken with the Artificarorum and the Arcanororum. Like I mentioned on my response, it would be purely NPC and would only appear behind the scenes in Progressions.

Nelfin Magic is mostly passive I believe. It's coming out on the wiki sometime soon (Hopefully). The summary is there under the list of magic schools if you want to see it.

What type of organization would you want to see?
  • Should we be a proper mages college?
  • Maybe a new rendition of the Azure Order, but less oppressive?
  • A band of for sale spellswords and casters?
  • Or something else?

Multiple. I do not think pushing all magic-related characters under one umbrella is a good choice. I think you should concentrate more on providing them a common purpose and storyline, and not a common pot to melt in. Especially if what was promised about trustee magic becomes true, magic-using characters will be far more diverse than what any organisation could gather up.

My ideal would be a corner of the imperial palace commissioning and contracting rogue mages and court wizards. Perhaps gathering them up together for the occasional meeting/masquerade. Something like The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.

What type of character would you want to see leading something like this?

Strictly a lore-staff controlled NPC. There is absolutely no need for yet another organisation to drive down the "Ow0 corruption-san" avenue. I have always found the Azure Order's leading Witchblood lady an interesting character.

How can we improve the desire to play magic characters from an IC and OOC perspective?

Maybe not have guards hound down mage characters for branding & collaring so that they get their incel bonus points.

From an OOC perspective, I suggest you give away with the "void-exist" dualism. It gives magic an unnecessary split where "good" and "evil" are pretty much defined so that there is little redemption for void mages, and little threat from exist mages. If both used the same resources, drawing from the same plane and using similar incantations, magic would become grey and its morality would be determined by character more than by silven eye colours.

How do you want to be a part of this, and how would you like mages to interact with each other?

I had three mage characters in the past, two nobles and a random sewer Qadir. I'd gladly return to play one of the ladies (no luck for the Devereux fans), though the last time I tried to, I noticed a very, very drastic change in attitude towards low-key mage characters (which ended up in a player report and a voiding verdict).

I am far more worried about authority-mage interactions than mage-mage interactions. Of the latter, I'm pretty neutral. See the above LEG suggestion.

A note I wanted to add here, Over the Hills and Far Away I have been a magic teacher for almost two years now, and have noticed the depth and possibilities there are in magic teaching RP, as well as acolyte-master RP. Massivecraft's time progression makes this far less viable, though I'd still suggest you look into it. I gladly help if so you decide.

  • What would motivate you and your character to pursue and join this organization?

Across the sea, Over the Hills and Far Away, we have had multiple magic organisations in the past. One thing common in them was that neither were much of a hierarchy. Mostly (and this applies to the current, fairly inactive one), they functioned as collectives of same-ranked mages of various calibres.

OOCly, I'd like to see an organisation that appeals to RP, and not the I-rule-over-people-nipple-rub aspect of it. An organisation with fair chances to shine for all its members, and an organisation that enforces as little as possible on its members while also unites them in a purpose that reinforces the organisation's place in the Empire.

ICly, mostly the same. An organisation that isn't ranked in a master - captains - footmen - recruits structure.

  • What would you and your character want to get out of this?

Me, character development and RP. I found the wider an audience my characters interact with the more enjoyable RP can get.

My character, most likely fame & fortune. Recognition and power. But that's just a character now innit?

  • What type of mage or mages interests you the most?

I inherently despise magic users that only cast in combat. My ideal type of mage commits to rituals, research and schemes, and does not just go like "boom-boom fire magic". If I wanted to interact with those, I'd re-subscribe to BfA.

Idea: what if there was an Alorian version of the SCP foundation? It'd obviously be called something different. The idea would be the same: categorize and contain anomalous objects. In a world full of magic, I'm sure there's a lot of stuff that doesn't make sense.

What type of organization would you want to see?
  • Should we be a proper mages college?
  • Maybe a new rendition of the Azure Order, but less oppressive?
  • A band of for sale spellswords and casters?
  • Or something else?
Yes, yes and more yes. More diversity in mages/magic would be amazing.

What type of character would you want to see leading something like this?
Probably an older mage character with the knowledge necessary, a stern hand to make sure Mages don't get out of control.
How can we improve the desire to play magic characters from an IC and OOC perspective?
Legalizing more magic/making it slightly more common would be fun.
How do you want to be a part of this, and how would you like mages to interact with each other?
Well, I'll most likely be getting into this with my mage, so whatever role I end up fitting in.

For people who currently play a mage or
silven, or a similarly arcane afflicted character:
  • Is that character your main? Why or why not?
  • What would encourage that character to join an organization like this?
  • What do you and your character want to gain from something like this?
  • What type of mage or mages do you generally lean towards? Combat casters? Scholarly sorcerers? Wild and wacky Wellen users? ( looking at you, Mae Draylas. )
  • What type of Silven do you play and what compels you to pick that type?
  1. Yes, he's my baby and I love him. I felt that I should devote my time to one character, and use the permissions I was given.
  2. If it seems interesting he'll join. He likes to be involved in many things at once.
  3. I would like a little fame, who wouldn't? It would be fun to have a little power,.
  4. Scholar type sorcerers are my favorite, that and utility mages meant for helping a team effort.
  5. Void, because I previously had an Exist one, and I wanted something new.

I think a mage college would be interesting to incorporate into RP. I think the Azure Order, should it be revived and active and all, should honestly stay the same. It's last rendition, I think, did a good job of being wary of the more-so evil magic but less oppressive towards the so-called good magic in most cases.
  • I think some sort of character with at least Magical Knowledge should definitely take charge, if not a mage themselves.

How can we improve the desire to play magic characters from an IC and OOC perspective?

How do you want to be a part of this, and how would you like mages to interact with each other?
Speaking only in terms of my personal opinion, I've been pretty content with magic RP as-is. I think giving people an area, in this case the Old Town, the chance to cast there without repercussion from most officials is a good bit of freedom. In some aspects, I would like to see the more legal magics be permitted to use a bit more openly, but realistically speaking I think the characters who give a more fearful approach to magic as a whole do a very good job of keeping things as they should be. Magic shouldn't be something everyone knows about or feels comfortable around. TL;DR I like magic RP as it is. I enjoy playing my magic character pretty much in several kinds of environments or situations.

My magic character is currently involved in a little Isldar huddle, but getting the chance to interact with other magic characters is always fun and full of opportunities--whether they're for better or worse is just a part of the character development our characters should have.

  • Is that character your main? Why or why not?
    • No, my magic character is not my main because I have obligations in the noble scene and the guard scene as well.
  • What would encourage that character to join an organization like this?
    • It very much depends on what could be gained. Risk versus reward is very related to this.
  • What do you and your character want to gain from something like this?
    • I think the chance to explore different avenues of RP would be very beneficial, and in terms of IC goals, getting the chance to meet other mages and learn more about magic as a whole--as well as building more relationships--would be key for my character.
  • What type of mage or mages do you generally lean towards? Combat casters? Scholarly sorcerers? Wild and wacky Wellen users? ( looking at you, Mae Draylas. )
    • I like more defensive types of magic, but certainly love ones that can be used for getaways, sneaking around, or otherwise help other characters in time of need. Scholarly might be the more appropriate answer, but I'm definitely not opposed to combat casters.
  • What type of Silven do you play and what compels you to pick that type?
    • I typically go for Void Silven as I have in the past. My first major Silven, Seris Devesiara, was made to be a greedy, self-indulgent Altalar. Though I don't really play a Silven at the moment, should my magic character take a dive, I'd pick up activity with my newest Silven. I created her for the intention of stirring RP for others to react and engage with, more so to encourage activity in perhaps lesser-used areas in Regalia.

What type of organization would you want to see?
I'd like to see a Circle of Magi-style organisation from Dragon Age, that both trains and contains mages for the purposes of protecting them whilst allowing them to continue practising magic.
What type of character would you want to see leading something like this?
Ironically enough, a non-mage scholar who knows as much, if not more, about magic than the average mage, as well as how to prevent mages from casting.
How can we improve the desire to play magic characters from an IC and OOC perspective?
Make magic most accessible to players on an OOC scale and reduce the stigma that magic has ICly, so as to encourage players to play a magic character without being immediately lynched by state law enforcement.
How do you want to be a part of this, and how would you like mages to interact with each other?
I'd like to act as some kind of magical historian if part of it, and I'd be happiest seeing mages view each other as colleagues or family.
Is that character your main?
Yes, Asher is my main. I find it a lot more fun to play scholarly characters than the usual muscle men I play.
What would encourage that character to join an organization like this?
Some kind of scholarly pursuit or cultivation of magic program would draw Asher to join.
What do you want you and your character to gain from something like this?
More knowledge, surrounding magic or history, and a greater connection with the mages currently in Regalia.
What type of mages do you generally lean towards?
Scholar-mages appeal to me the most.
What type of Silven do you play and what compels you to pick that type?
Exist Silven. I find them to be criminally underused in comparison to Void Silven, and wanted to choose full Exist muters for my character.

What type of organization would you want to see?
  • Should we be a proper mages college?
  • Maybe a new rendition of the Azure Order, but less oppressive?
  • A band of for sale spellswords and casters?
All the above, a proper college setting where-in it fosters mentor/student roleplay and character relationships between one another, multi-racial and more of an interesting neutral stance politically, or maybe with a similar premise as the Azure Order but far less oppressive and more likely to utilize mages as a resource to encourage more roleplay and interaction, all the while opening up avenues for mages or spellswords for hire by guard charters or other organizations to encourage roleplay with others rather than an isolated sect of the community.

What type of character would you want to see leading something like this?
Someone you would expect to lead a mage organization, some old bearded Dumbledore tier headmaster. Perhaps a leader who cares but has a tough love aspect.

How can we improve the desire to play magic characters from an IC and OOC perspective?
Less oppression, more opportunity to grow, but not a lack of oppression period.

How do you want to be a part of this, and how would you like mages to interact with each other?
More likely to interact with different organizations and other communities- or absorb mages from other racial communities to allow people to be from multiple sects at once to allow for greater avenues of roleplay and interaction at large.

For people who currently play a mage or silven, or a similarly arcane afflicted character:
  • Is that character your main? Why or why not? I have a mage, silven and a normie, my mage is usually my main, I enjoy magic due to its versatility and unique aspect it gives to roleplay, I prefer versatility as it provides a whole new host of creative benefits and means in which you can do or accomplish tasks without being a simple 'miracle' or take interest away from the character's abilities or skills but rather a device which enchances the character.
  • What would encourage that character to join an organization like this? Something that they could benefit from being a part of rather than something they should avoid or fear for their livelihood.
  • What do you and your character want to gain from something like this? More avenues of roleplay and interacting with more people and a way to participate in organizations again, given mages and silven are outlawed from most organizations or guard charters.
  • What type of mage or mages do you generally lean towards? Combat casters? Scholarly sorcerers? Wild and wacky Wellen users? ( looking at you, Mae Draylas. ) Utility based nature-esque magic that relies on creative uses to overcome obstacles, versatile and can suit many roles but isn't particularly a master of any, such as holding the capacity to fight- but only in self defense or in the support of an actual fighter. Magic that usually makes my character also have to rely on roleplaying with someone else to do something grandiose, or relying on the environment or other entities.
  • What type of Silven do you play and what compels you to pick that type? If my mage character embodies the more goodly and compassionate side of nature, my silven embodies the opposite more realistic and practical side, my silven is an Url born from the Nature Arken. It's interesting to play a more nature-y druidic or tribal character in a big city such as regalia, it sometimes inspires conflict from time to time, or is something different to the standard ailor knight in shining armor.

This is a reminder that this is a discussion platform for the future of magic, and not really one to dredge up needless debates, ask lore questions, or some kind of platform for you to advertise your characters.

What type of organization would you want to see?
A proper Mage's college would be interesting to see, it would allow for more in character cooperation among mages and give them a common ground to interact with each other in the first place. It doesn't have to be a place with free reign however, such an organization could be overseen by some extension of the Azure order or other magic regulation organization. (An example off the top of my head would be when there were small light magic schools in Regalia overseen by the NPC order sometime back)
What type of character would you want to see leading something like this?
An Archmage type character with a lot of knowledge on the arcane
How can we improve the desire to play magic characters from an IC and OOC perspective?
I don't think much else aside from looser OOC restrictions need to motivate people to want to play magic characters since most everyone has wanted to for a while.
How do you want to be a part of this, and how would you like mages to interact with each other?

I hope to gain more collaborative roleplay with other mages - working towards large goals and such.

For people who currently play a mage or silven, or a similarly arcane afflicted character:

Is that character your main?

Yes!
What would encourage that character to join an organization like this?
The opportunity to learn more about magic and others like them as well as meeting others similar to them.
What do you want you and your character to gain from something like this?
Connections and new relationships
What type of mages do you generally lean towards?
Utility and Entertainment
What type of Silven do you play and what compels you to pick that type?
Existling! I picked it originally as it'd tie into why Aesling would have joined the Nenyarina and I found Existlings to be less used than their Void counterparts.

What type of organization would you want to see?

I would love to see a new Azure Order type organisation, not so much as to beat other mages down, but to provide for regulating, registering and safely practising magic. So essentially an addition to the Order with a more college-like feeling.

What type of character would you want to see leading something like this?

Someone knowledgeable of Magic, they need to know what they are talking about - not an NPC character, at that. As mentioned by others, trusted by the state, need to know how to suppress mages should it be necessary.

How can we improve the desire to play magic characters from an IC and OOC perspective?

With the new Magic stuff hopefully coming up, I think the 'parlor tricks' magic is already a cool way to make magic more appealing. The general stigma IC should perhaps me adjusted as well, making magic more accepted.

How do you want to be a part of this, and how would you like mages to interact with each other?

I would most likely join whatever organisation pops up, as my character wants to make sure magic is properly handled. I want to see mages sharing their knowledge and experience, see them interact with the general other organisations more as a group instead of them floating inbetween.
  • Is that character your main? Why or why not?
Yes, I like to split my time evenly between my mage and Silven. I really enjoy the intrigue of the more unknown, mysterious lore and the mechanics of magic IC.
  • What would encourage that character to join an organization like this?
My mage as said before wants to see people handle magic properly and for the right purposes, it's an attempt at a more scholarly persuit. Magic is still relatively unknown to the Ailor so 'mapping' it is her self-appointed task.
  • What do you and your character want to gain from something like this?
I myself would like to see an influx of mages, starting out or with multiple spells. There are a handful around right now, but they're not as prevalent as they could/should be. As for my character:
Knowledge, quite simple. Even if it borders on something more secretive, she needs to know.
  • What type of mage or mages do you generally lean towards? Combat casters? Scholarly sorcerers? Wild and wacky Wellen users? ( looking at you, Mae Draylas. )
Most succesful run has been with a scholarly mage, although I can equally enjoy most other 'builds'.
  • What type of Silven do you play and what compels you to pick that type?
A void Silven. It was moreso a choice of what fit the character's overall theme and 'feel', also keeping Arken parentage in mind that fits.

What type of organization would you want to see?
A ragtag-esque band of fanatical terrorists riding high on the horse of superiority- and god complexes with the grand ambition to emancipate magic from Regalia's oppression. I'd dare to say that the idea of a group of fascist mages operating under the behest of the government has grown rather stale and that introducing an organization with a premise that's the polar opposite of the Azures would be a nice change. Something more revolutionary and relative than just some magic/knowledge-hoarders.

What type of character would you want to see leading something like this?
A character who's persona reflects the constitution of the would-be magical organization. Preferably someone with a more virulent and capricious approach to things as to not be influenced by clique roleplay. Perfect Silven?

How can we improve the desire to play magic characters from an IC and OOC perspective?
I wouldn't really say there's any real need to promote magic roleplay as of right now, as it's already a largely desired and practiced branch in the community. On an OOC note, however, there's always been a pretty prevalent distaste for magic revolving combat, and helplessness of the receiving party. I'd suggest that with this incoming introduction to custom magic schools and all that thinks like magic missiles, fireballs and et cetera are scrutinized more and that there should be an incentive for a more utilitarian and ritualistic aesthetic for magic as a whole.

How do you want to be a part of this, and how would you like mages to interact with each other?

For people who currently play a mage or silven, or a similarly arcane afflicted character:
  • Is that character your main? Why or why not?
Yes, my main character is Hägmer of Üthelwel, a Katharic Void Silven with a spellsword-sort-of-deal with Kathar Magic. I think it's really just by circumstance and my own inertia to expand my range of characters that he's my big guy (literally).
  • What would encourage that character to join an organization like this?
If the group was tailored in a similar fashion to what I suggested prior; a more antagonistic institution that isn't essentially machinated under the Regalian regime or relying of it.
  • What do you and your character want to gain from something like this?
An enjoyable roleplaying experience xd.
  • What type of mage or mages do you generally lean towards? Combat casters? Scholarly sorcerers? Wild and wacky Wellen users? ( looking at you, Mae Draylas. )
I typically cater to either combat-caster/spellsword aesthetics as it allows for flexibility, or a full-blown mage. I've always had a strong liking for rituals and the occult, and thus Void-related magics such as those from the Kathar, Death, and Demon schools have always been my favorite.
  • What type of Silven do you play and what compels you to pick that type?
Void Silven. It's an important aspect of my character's design as Voidlings are extremely important and idolized by Kathar society and religion, which Hägmer had emerged from.

hat type of organization would you want to see?
  • I think the type of organization I would like to see would not be state funded. Rather, perhaps, something akin to a secret society of wizards - one who don't 'police' magic, so to say, but instead try to push for legalization of magic in regalia. An organization that might have some characters be 'good examples' of mages and try to push them to do political things, and have other characters be labeled as 'bad mages' who the group kinda condems and is like "Hey these people aren't what a mage should be" or whatever.

What type of character would you want to see leading something like this?
  • I'm not sure. Maybe like, a super old and galdalf - type wizard. Dunno, don't really have a preference. But surely they must be motivated, maybe even an extremist. wjfhcbweuhf.

How can we improve the desire to play magic characters from an IC and OOC perspective?
  • The desire is there, my dude. Magic is badass.

How do you want to be a part of this, and how would you like mages to interact with each other?
  • I'm not sure if I even want to be part of a larger organization an all. Sure it'd be neat, but also pretty limiting, I feel, what my mage could do. She is, after all, an extremist cultists whom isn't at all unionist. This kinda goes against a lot of established organisations.

For people who currently play a mage or silven, or a similarly arcane afflicted character:
  • Is that character your main? Why or why not?
    • I have always maided a mage. Abigail Tucker was my first, then Na'salliou Va'shozaal, and now Mi-Sung Zhao.
  • What would encourage that character to join an organization like this?
    • Honestly, promise for protection. She's a non-unionist openly spreading a non-unionist faith. Her magic is strongly tied to her religion, she'd be less concerned about magic stuff, more wanting to get in with fellow mages so they could offer protection if she so needed, I guess
  • What do you and your character want to gain from something like this?
    • Again, protection. Maybe even aiding in pushing of magical legalization
  • What type of mage or mages do you generally lean towards? Combat casters? Scholarly sorcerers? Wild and wacky Wellen users? ( looking at you, Mae Draylas. )
    • I've played two celestial mages, and two void mages. I initially started as a pretty weak 2 - spell healer type, somebody who didn't start magic until their 20's as opposed to starting at 14 like every other played mage at the time. Later I played a Kathar exist archmage, who used exist magic for evil. Not a good guy like other exist mages at the time. That was fun, feeling like you have full power, but also being a frail old elf at the same time. Then I played a Fai'llir Kathar void mage who was intended to be a pro - dread empire battle mage, with majority kather spells, and 2 other magic spells. She was fun, but ended up kinda flopping in the end. This was the only time I played a silven mage, and made use of the magic muters. Fun while it lasted. Now, I play a 2 - elemental mage build, using only the fire spells. The intention is to be a cleric of sorts, a warrior of the sun. I'm having fun with this idea, as well. I typically don't choose one type of mage to play, every mage I've played this far has had different spells, intentions, and motivations.
  • What type of Silven do you play and what compels you to pick that type?
    • I've played one exist and two void silven. I, honestly, didn't see much a difference between silven types, they were all treated the same. The only time it mattered about being a silven was when I had a silven Kathar, but that is due to Kathar culture and such. I don't see too much value in playing a silven, if I'm honest. Sure, it offers rp with Arken, but they are never around. The only one played is Ott, who makes scarce appearances.
  • Other feedback
    • The proposed system for custom magic sounds badass as all hell. I hope the staff remain open minded about such and really allow for some creative uses of magic from players. I liked the old magics, a lot, hopefully the feel of them will return with this old system. Make magic formidable again.

What type of organization would you want to see?
  • A reimplementation of the Azure Order, or some other expansion, though far less oppressive and more so for reform/regulation of mages and other aberrants of varying types as well as researching the aforementioned. This both offers a lot more RP as well as allows players to learn about lore which has yet to be fully explored. Said order should still be intimidating but not out to purge magic but instead, learn how to use it to the Empire's advantage even if that means enslaving certain races/magic users.
What type of character would you want to see leading something like this?
  • There's mention on the Phantasma page about the Grand Vigil of the Azure Order being a Witchblood. I picture her to rule with an iron fist but to not be unreasonable which could be interesting to bring to the RP scene.
How can we improve the desire to play magic characters from an IC and OOC perspective?
  • Honestly, I don't think there needs to be any further improvement. Since the announcement of the removal of trustee and rework of magic, I have seen countless people excited to play magic. I think this change was the improvement.
How do you want to be a part of this, and how would you like mages to interact with each other?
  • I don't personally play a mage and may not since I like fighters and like the idea of earning powers through ways like Ott and similar methods instead of writing it into a backstory (not saying I will never play a mage, just like earning powers instead). That said, I play a Kathar who has made deals and him being abused and experimented on and interrogated to learn about the abilities he gained would be interesting for me. Outside of my current character, magic guards/spies seem interesting, those who would keep an eye on the various mages and what not in the city to keep tabs of what's going on.

What type of organization would you want to see?
I have three main ideas of what I think people would enjoy, along with myself.
  1. A group of combat oriented warlocks for one would be an interesting twist. Due to the heavy religious laws in Regalia stating that magic is bad-bad-tsk-tsk, mages are unable to use Arcane magic in charters as guards and I feel like this really does limit what you can do with a mage. Guard RP thrives in Regalia and gives people task role-play. By giving mages the room to act as Arcane guards who can work within their own charter or work beneath already made charters would give mage characters room to experience RP other than illegal casting or oppression. Whether it be a group of misfit mages or an organized group that supervised by the state, I think it would open new doors for people who would like to use mage in combat without facing consequences for breaking the law. Think more along the lines of Marvel's Avengers, a group that is still oppressed within a sense but is brought out during dire times.
  2. The second idea of mine would be a covert organization that works behind the scene for Arcane related topics. This sort of group would be entirely mage based and would exclude non-magi characters. Their main purpose could be to preserve magic within Regalia since it's has been oppressed to the point that Magi characters have lost hands. I'd love it to have a mysterious twist to it, possibly some connections to the state so it remains within legal boundaries. But otherwise, I'd like to be more controlling towards the Magi population in Regalia, possibly seeking out members or purging those who they see unfit or who may threaten the possibly legalization of Arcane abilities in Regalia. Sorta like magic police, I guess?
  3. The third idea would closely follow the second idea, however the twist ending would be that the group would be completely anti-state ran. It would be a new side to magic in Regalia if there was a group of Magi who did not end up becoming Inquisition or other organizations' lapdogs. They could instead find a foothold in Regalia to create more chaos in the name of creating a better world for Arcane abilities. They can work towards a revolutionary stance for magic rather than being forced to work within the lines of guard work by opposing the state. This would not only open open role-play for Magi's, but also guard RP since there is a lack of crime right now. However, this would be a difficult group to achieve in Regalia due to the possibly of causing characters to be executed, so I won't expand much more on this idea even if this would be my favourite idea out of all three. But I think most players who have owned and role-played mages would enjoy a 180 in mage RP that doesn't include having to role-play beneath charters or guards, but instead free reign.
What type of character would you want to see leading something like this?
A mage. Plain and simple, a mage. I want to see an Arcane organization that isn't ran by a mundane character but instead someone who is an aberrant. I'd like it to be ran by someone who can control a group of mages without oppressing them, instead allowing Magi's room to grow and thrive in Regalia rather than being stomped out by an iron boot.

How can we improve the desire to play magic characters from an IC and OOC perspective?

Less oppression. I understand that IC there are standing reasons why mages are turned away from charter or guard work, but I feel like it kills quite a bit of possible RP for Magi characters. Having more room to work IC with mage would help develop and expand RP for players.

How do you want to be a part of this, and how would you like mages to interact with each other?

Taliandra Jouhari is my main character. I like to focus on RPing a single character at a time so then I can devote my time into one and develop the character. I feel like being within a group of legal or illegal characters would encourage me to want to RP outside of the slums. Unfortunately, if I want to RP using magic I have to remain within Old Town otherwise I'll end up arrested and branded a heretic. And seeing as Taliandra enjoys using and practicing magic, she would immediately jump into an organization that allows her to do so. Being able to use her magic outside of stopping a bar fight within the Falcon would be something she'd enjoy. Although she would still favor combat casting over scholarly sorcery seeing as she isn't interested in that side of magic. So being within a more college-like organization wouldn't be something she is drawn towards unless she becomes desperate enough to be around people like herself. Due to her criminal record and parental influences, she'd probably stray towards an anti-state movement or at least the possibly of using magic legally. I feel like having options for Taliandra/other mages outside of slum bar RP (as much as I enjoy and instigate it) would draw more role-play for myself and others.
I know it's a little late but it's better than never.
